Figuration to Fragmentation: The Human Form in Contemporary Ceramic Sculpture

Sept 11 - Oct 15, 2009
Information and Schedule of all Exhibits, Lectures & Conference

Figuration to Fragmentation: The Human Form in Contemporary Ceramic Sculpture is a two-part exhibition at the Morlan Gallery and the Tuska Center for Contemporary Art. A survey mapping the topography of the human condition, this exhibition articulates a clear vision of the role of the figure in contemporary ceramics. The wonderfully diverse selection of artists includes Tom Bartel, Kira Campbell, Sergei Isupov and Hunter Stamps at Morlan; Tanya Batura, Anne Drew Potter, Keith Wallace Smith and Liz Zacher at TCCA. An online catalog will be produced (available for download or purchase from www.lulu.com for $9.30), featuring an essay by noted ceramic critic, Adam Welch, on the use of the figure in contemporary ceramics. In addition to the exhibit, there will be a lecture series, held at both UK & Transylvania, on consecutive Thursday nights, and a mini-conference, The Role of the Figure in Contemporary Ceramics, at UK on October 1 & 2.
