Overview
The Art Department offers two undergraduate Majors, the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and the Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.), and an undergraduate Minor in Art Studio. The B.A. degree locates the study of studio disciplines within a matrix of a classic, well-rounded liberal arts education. The B.F.A. is a pre-professional degree leading to graduate level study and specialized careers in Art Studio; i.e the M.F.A. Students may apply for entry into the B.F.A. program after completion of their foundation core curriculum and their sophomore year.
The Department’s Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) program is the only terminal, professional art studio degree in the Commonwealth. Graduate students specialize in one or more of several media including Ceramics, New Media, Drawing, Fiber Arts, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, and Sculpture. The M.F.A. is a 60 hour three year program that follows the College Art Association credit hours demand.
