Huskisson is an artist, writer, contemporary art historian, and adjunct faculty for the University of Kentucky Art Department who, for over 28 years, has worked at the intersection of arts and community engagement. While pursuing her bachelor’s in the 1980s, Huskisson developed a passion for visionary art, completing her Masters of Art History thesis arguing that art, no longer limited by the traditional confines of object, influenced the 20th century paradigm shift for museums. Presently Huskisson teaches Museum Studies courses dedicated to the mantra that visionary art, particularly when placed in the public realm, has the power to address issues of major significance for the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Huskisson holds a Masters in Art History and a Masters in Business Administration. She has held positions that include Executive Director of Galleries and Collections for Georgetown College, where she helped establish the Dr. Donald and Dorothy Jacobs Gallery and led the installation of the first piece of public art on that campus (September 2002: L’Chaim by Dennis Whitcopf). She has also worked on an independent basis for the Kentucky Arts Council and the University of Kentucky Art Museum.
She has worked as an arts journalist for a Business Lexington since 2002, authoring numerous articles and hosting for over fifteen arts segments on the Business Lexington Television. Her primary focus is community engagement in the intersection of business and the arts (Business Takes a Solo, 2004) and public art (Public Art Springs Up in Lexington, 2008.)
She is presently a member of the Exhibitions and Programming Cabinet for Lexington Art League, the Legacy Trail Public Art Consortium, Public Art Dialogue, Kentucky Museum and Heritage Alliance, Americans for the Arts Public Art Network, and the Woodford County Heritage Committee.
Huskisson is a 2010 recipient of the Commonwealth Collaborative grant from the University of Kentucky for her work in the field of engaged research and public art, in particular for her commitment to engage students on all levels of multiple initiatives in the field of public art in Lexington.
She was born, raised, and resides in Kentucky.
