I believe communication starts at an instant with eye contact. A painting - a mute object - speaks, when the viewer is willing to take time and to listen. Through manipulating materials and creative strategies, I want to elevate the inactive communication pattern with the viewers. My painting is not meant to reproduce the visible, rather, to make the invisible visible. The configuration of my works hence becomes an important factor at first sight. Every element I use in the work signifies certain meanings. The dressmaker’s dummy symbolizes human physicality, immobility, and loss of individuality. Combining this with architectural elements such as a department store, staircases, and an apartment floor plane to refer to the existing human environment, I depict how humans interact within limited space and time. The main themes of my work criticize man’s propensity for materialistic pursuit. In observing conformity of human behaviors I further question what it means to exist in the universe.
