Arts Administration Faculty

There are two faculty members teaching full-time in the Arts Administration Program, Michael Braun and Roger Paige whose biographies are listed below. The program, however, supplements the full-time faculty with approximately one part-time instructor per semester. People who have taught part-time in the program include arts consultants Bob Lewis and Linda Barnard, LexArts Executive Director Jim Clark, Director of the UK Art Museum Kathleen Walsh-Piper, Director of the UK Singletary Center of the Arts Holly Salisbury, Director of Theatre at Berea College Deborah Martin, Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts Vice President for Education Debbie Shannon and Director of School Programs Jeff Jamner, and Graphics Designers Renee Human and Trang Nguyen.

Michael Braun
Michael Braun
is an Associate Professor in the College of Fine Arts at the University of Kentucky. Since 1994, he has also served as the director of the Arts Administration Program, teaching classes in fundraising, marketing, public relations, and non-profit management. He has worked frequently as an arts consultant for various nonprofit arts organizations, national arts service organizations, foundations, state arts agencies, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Prior to coming to Kentucky, he spent almost eight years as the Executive Director of the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation in Baltimore, Maryland. Prior to that, he spent over seven years in Minneapolis, Minnesota on the staff of Arts Midwest and one of its predecessor organizations the Affiliated State Arts Agencies of the Upper Midwest. He has a BA in Theatre and an MA in Arts Administration from St. Cloud State University, where he also worked as an advisor to the Atwood Board of Governors, the student organization responsible for much of SCSU's arts programming. His professional theatre credits include work with the Mark Taper Forum, Los Angeles Actors Theatre, and the Minneapolis Children's Theatre. He has also served on the boards of the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies and Actors Theatre of Lexington.

 

 

Roger Paige
Roger Paige
works as an independent arts consultant, helping arts and cultural organizations in planning, board development, and day-to-day operations. He was founding director of the Lexington Children's Museum, and led that organization for nine years. From 1985 to 1989 he was Director of the Kentucky Arts Council. Educated as an artist, he earned a bachelor's degree in fabric design from the Philadelphia College of Textiles and a master's degree in art education from the University of South Carolina. He studied at Schiller College in Paris, was involved in creativity studies with the Harvard Project Zero, and took part in the Outward Bound Program in North Carolina.From 1977 until 1985 he was with the South Carolina Arts Commission, first as arts coordinator and later as assistant division director. He served as an art teacher in public schools, was a fabric designer with Wendell Fabrics Corporation and spent two summers with the Festival of American Folklife at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington. During his four-year tenure as Director of the Kentucky Arts Council, Mr. Paige developed the Council's first long-range plan, created the community artist residency program, and instituted the local government incentive program.As Director of the Lexington Children's Museum, he was responsible for all administration of the 20,000 cubic foot facility.
