UK Arts Administration Internships
Students in the Arts Administration Program must complete at least six credit hours of internships to graduate. The purpose of these internships is to help students:
- Explore arts administration areas in which they may want to work once they graduate;
- Earn relevant arts administration work experience;
- Build professional contacts in the field; and
- Understand the work-place demands faced by arts administrators.
Additionally, when students complete their internships toward the end of their academic studies, internships can turn into job offers.
Many students start with a three-credit internship at an organization either on campus or in the Lexington community. This type of internship is helpful if a student has not had much experience working as an arts administrator and would like to be introduced to the demands of the workplace on the local level. The Arts Administration program does, however, encourage all our students to complete at least one three-credit internship at a nationally recognized arts organization outside of the Lexington area. Generally students complete this type of internship during a summer break.
Students can also complete all six credits of their internship requirements at a single, nationally recognized arts organization. Additionally, students can take up to 12 credit hours of internship during any semester, including fall and spring. This allows students to complete an internship away from campus while still retaining their full-time student status.
Faculty work with the students to identify internships that meet their interests and needs. In recent years, UK Arts Administration students have completed internships at the following arts organizations:
- Actor's Theatre of Louisville
