Practicum Syllabus
Students must complete at least a one-credit Practicum before they graduate, which constitutes a minimum of forty hours of service work in the field of Arts Administration. Most students complete their Practicums within units of the University of Kentucky, such as the Arts Administration Program, Art Department, Art Museum, School of Music, and Singletary Center for the Arts, Student Activities Board and Theatre Department. Although, Practicum hours may also be completed off-campus. Besides helping students gain Arts Administration experience, Practicums encourage them to acquire the habit of serving their community, a primary goal of nonprofit arts organizations.
Students, with assistance from the Arts Administration Program’s Director, are required to identify where they will be completing their Practicum hours and the activities they will be carrying out. Once this information has been identified, students then complete Learning Contracts, describing their Practicums. The Program’s Director also monitors the students during their Practicums, evaluates the students’ experiences and assigns them a final grade of Pass or Fail.
