Our Facilities
The College of Fine Arts offers many different facilities available to our students, faculty, and staff.
• Fine Arts Building [map]-The Fine Arts Building is located on Rose Street and is home to the College of Fine Arts. It includes the Tuska Gallery of Contemporary Art and the Guignol Theatre. The building was completed in 1950 on the site of Maxwell Springs, once part of the property which included Maxwell Place. If you are a current UK student, CFA staff member, or CFA Faculty, you can stop by 202 Fine Arts Building and get your UK ID card swiped to grant you access to the Fine Arts Building after hours. • Singletary Center for the Arts [map] -The Singletary Center for the Arts is located at the corner of Rose Street and Euclid Avenue. Opened in 1979, it includes a concert hall, a smaller recital hall, and the University Art Museum. It was named to honor Otis A. Singletary, president of the University. It was built on part of the site of McLean Stadium, which was razed in the 1970s.
• Guignol Theatre [map]-The Guignol Theatre is a 390-seat proscenium theatre. Pronounced "geen-yohl," it was named after the Grand Guignol theatre in Paris. The stage is equipped with a full fly house and the floor is trapped. In 2003, a new state of the art lighting system was installed. The Guignol Theatre began productions in 1927 on Euclid Avenue. When the building burned in 1947, the new Fine Arts Building took the Guignol Theatre name. The lobby and the house of the Guignol were renovated in 2000 and the theatre was reopened to the public with a grand gala in February 2001. In 2005 the lobby was given a face-lift. (Read more…)
• Reynolds Building [map]-The Reynolds Buildings are located at the end of Scott Street on South Broadway. Reynolds Building 1 contains studio space for the Art Department and the Barnhart Gallery. The three Reynolds Buildings were originally tobacco warehouses.
• Lucille Caudill Little Fine Arts Library [map]-The Lucille Caudill Little Fine Arts Library and Learning Center is located in the central campus between Library Drive and Patterson Drive behind the Fine Arts Building. It was built in 1974 as an addition to the original King Library and was known as King Library North. A bridge connecting the North and South buildings was removed in 1999 and the Little Library was extensively renovated and reopened in 2000.
• Lucille Caudill Little Fine Arts Technology Lab [map]- Located in the basement of the Lucille Little Fine Arts Library building, this state-of-the-art computer lab consists of 21-seat classrooms and a 32-seat general use area. It currently contains dual 2GHz Power Macintosh G5 towers and a wide variety of software and peripherals targeted for multimedia projects. Students using the labs must obtain Macintosh accounts, which are customizable and provide personal storage space that can be accessed from any Systems Labs Macintosh lab or from any computer via SFTP. • John Jacob Niles Center for American Music -[map] Located in the main lobby of the Lucille Caudill Little Fine Arts Library, the John Jacob Niles Center for American Music serves as a repository for primary and secondary research materials and it actively supports the dissemination of scholarly research in American Music.
