Welcome Prospective Students!

Like an artist who brings both heart and soul to a canvas, the College of Fine Arts brings out the best in its students and faculty.  From the fiery rhythms of the UK Jazz Ensemble to the deliberate strokes of a painter’s brush, from the breathtaking arias of an internationally recognized opera program to the bustling preparations for a theatrical production, the College of Fine Arts is rich with color and energy.

To capture the heart and soul of a great education, the College of Fine Arts offers Kentucky’s most comprehensive array of academic programs devoted to the visual and performing arts.  Its degrees are rooted in creative learning and growth, and peers laud its faculty and programming across the nation.  This solid focus and strong direction have drawn the interest and attention of faculty who bring their own excellence to the College of Fine Arts and who enrich the lives of students through new and innovative courses, research and service to the world.

The College of Fine Arts is comprised of the School of Music, the Department of Art, the Department of Theatre, the Arts Administration program, and the Singletary Center for the Arts—a performance and exhibition facility.  Because of the standard of excellence set by both students and faculty, the School of Music’s vocal areas and jazz programs have been recognized as among the best in the country.  The Singletary Center draws internationally known performers who bring the world onstage for both students and community alike.  Traveling throughout the world, art department faculty regularly share their talents and vision with their colleagues.  The Arts Administration Program, developed in response to a skyrocketing demand for professionals with both business skills and artist sensibility, is one of only a few in the country that prepares undergraduate students for the real world.  Award-winning screenwriters have learned their trade from the Department of Theatre and faculty are known for their abilities from set design to stage direction.

United in commitment, discipline and cooperation, the College of Fine Arts is a community of students and faculty brought together in the collaborative process of producing works of art.  The College offers not only a curriculum finely balanced between education and performance but also a distinguished faculty who challenge and support students.

The College of Fine Arts is rooted in creative learning and growth.  Inherent in this kind of preparation is development of the ability to think critically—to analyze, to assess, to learn and to adapt to the endless waves of change that mark life’s journey.

Whether uncovering a long-lost musical score or studying the patronage of the arts through magnificently illuminated manuscripts, students and faculty have traveled from the United State to Europe to interpret and preserve the arts.  The reward of their knowledge and expertise are manifested in innovations to prestigious competitions where first-place showings are common.  The College expects its students and faculty to be prominent in the arts world and provides the solid foundation upon which to master each discipline.

Guided by its goals to advance scholarship, leadership and stewardship, the College of Fine Arts stands on the threshold of national prominence for fostering excellence in research, and undergraduate and graduate education.  It will leave a legacy of understanding of and appreciation for the arts for many generations to come.
