Favorite UK Drum Line Memories: Parties at Newberry's; The INFAMOUS New Orleans trip - Chuck Thornton's most famous line "I'm NOT sick", with a bus breaking down and our bus limping along with them, being separated throughout the hotel, partying in New Orleans, Playing Maynard Ferguson's version of "Rocky" while LSU grad Bill Conti who wrote the "Rocky" score was on the sidelines; A trumpet player and a feature twirler have broken glass flying into their eyes (fortunately they were ok), heighten tension AFTER we won the game; 2 trips to Washington D.C.- going to the Smithsonian Air & Space, running like crazy to watch the Senate in action (in the days BEFORE CSPAN); The Peach Bowl - breaking my drum head during the AM practice at Georgia Tech, "WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE DON'T HAVE A REPLACEMENT HEAD WITH US", Borrowing a drum head from Plains (Ga.) High School Band (sound familiar Presidential buffs), winning the first bowl game in 20 yrs.; sitting on the floor at the 1978 championship game which was preceeded by renting a car and driving through St.Louis, going to the St.Louis Zoo on a rainy day, after arriving in St.Louis persuading the bus driver to take the bus to a liquor store in return for 1 (or was it 2) FREE six pack(s), telling then Associate Coach Leonard Hamilton that he couldn't have a chair; Newberry; Elliott; Stark; David James FINALLY talking to me in NOVEMBER; Hensley; Ryno (unfortunately); Cook; Simmons (Simmone's); Gerlads; Newhall (including the "fight" at the Miss. St.game); Oldham (from Beaumont to UK); UPCHUCK (see New Orleans); Ben-Hur and HIS CHARIOT; "Perross"; "Burnout"; Recording "THE WHITE ALBUM" in Alumni Coliseum; "Davenport, you got to be kidding me"; Gong falls over by itself while David James and James Cook gets blamed; Party Bus; reworking "The Letter" to "My baby uses a Feather"; reworking "American Bandstand" to "Band Queers"; My memory has stalled (just happens when you get older) this is all for now. Maybe I'll remember some more by the next Alumni Band.! See ya then.

Name: James Cook     Years in the UK Drum Line: 1975-1978

Instrument(s) played: snare

Hometown: Princeton, Kentucky      High School Attended: Caldwell County

Where I am now: I am now the owner of the Music Zone in Paducah (Lone Oak area) 1-888-687-8000. Please feel free to use the toll free number since it's been my experience that most drummers will do most anything to save spending their own money unless we need beer.

Favorite UK Drum Line Memories: Having been in the line with the likes of David James, Joe Craft, Don Newberry, etc.....the experiences were many. Unfortunately because of "foot-band" contest (some of you will remember that phrase from Davenport) I've been unable to arrend any of the Alumni Band events. But hey, that's the way it goes. I would love to hear from any of the old UK Drum Line members from the old days (1975-79).

Name: Jim Oldham     Years in the UK Drum Line: 1977-1981

I work as a Litigation Paralegal and am assigned to a National Ligitation Team that travels the country dealing with product liability matters. Thus far, I have litigated cases in 23 States. When I first came to Milwaukee, I worked with a Corps by the name of the Pioneers. I still play with a local jazz group. I have many great stories that I could tell about the UK Drum Line but I'll save those for the next alumni band .

Name: Dale Ashby      Years in the UK Drum Line: 1978-1986

Instrument(s) played: everything      Nickname: yankee

Drum Corps Experience: Fulton Gauchos & Watkins Glen Squires (snare)

Name: Robin Gooch  Years in the UK Drum Line: 1979-1983

Instrument(s) played: tenor 79, 81-83, snare 80      Nickname: Joe

Hometown: Somerset, Kentucky      High School Attended: Somerset

Where I am now: I currently work for Toyota Motor Manufacturing at Georgetown, KY in the Production Control Department as Engineering Change Coordinator for the entire TMMK facility. I am also a member of the Orchestra at Porter Memorial Baptist Church in Lexington. I was married to Diana Porter (Trumpet) in 1984 and still married, after all these years! We have one daughter, Sarah age 8.

Favorite UK Drum Line Memories: Walking into Band Camp the first day in 1979 with the New White Ludwig Drums UK had just purchased. Eight snare drums, four triple tenors, and five bass drums (we added two snares, one triple, bongo/timbale set, and the mallets the 1980 season). I definitely understood the appreciation of the new equipment from the upperclassmen, especially the years they had to beg and borrow equipment just to get on the field. Sandy Banks (I can't keep the same beat I'm counting off for the band, but gee I'm pretty!) Wondering how in the world Michael Leach made it out of Henry Clay High School alive at 16 years old and in the drum line at UK, and how he survived Dale. The first time going through the tunnel at Commonwealth before going on the field. The first short road trip to Indiana on National TV, and the first long road trip to Atlanta, going to Tolly Ho for Breakfast before leaving on the trip. One of my favorites is one of the last practices we had in 1981 when we practiced at Shively prior to the Tennessee game. It was very cold and the astroturf was frozen. I looked back at the bass drum line at No. 4 (Baby Huey aka Wes Morgan) who has the metabolism of a thoroughbred horse (or maybe a Clydesdale) Here we are freezing our "Hands", and here he is standing there with steam rising from his head rivaling the cooling towers at UK Hospital! It was one of those sights you just had to be there! Also the 1981 drum line victory at Chicago was definitely a highlight. Being lead tenor that year, and the whole trip: the stopover at Jay Kleocker's High School in Illinois, staying with the families at the farmhouses that night, the practices leading up to the event, how after the performance Dale actually High Fived all of us! (Rare positive emotion!) The announcement of second place, when we figured out we WON! Those times were special. I still enjoy keeping up with the guys from the line from those times!, Plus, I still have an "Unworn" T-shirt of the 1981 World Champions stored away, remember the blue/white shirts I had made with all of the drum line names on it? It will make a reappearance at an Alumni function someday!

Name: Donnie Estill Years in the UK Drum Line: 1979-1985

Instrument(s) played: cymbals 79, bass drum 80, pit 83

Hometown: Frankfort, Kentucky      High School Attended: Franklin County

Where I am now: After living in both Lexington and Louisville, I have returned to Frankfort and have been back now for 8 years. I am working as a consultant for KForce.com and currently working a contract for the Governors Office of Technology. I have been married to Jennifer for 13 years and we have two children Eric 11 and Olivia 9. I am still playing in various organizations in town. I am recovering from a serious illness that resulted in two major surgeries last fall.

Favorite UK Drum Line Memories: As a member of the marching band it was a great experience to travel to any away basketball tournament games with the team. One such trip in Nashville will always stick out in my memory. We had an early afternoon game that day and like most of the time UK won their game. As if we needed any excuse to party we enticed our famous Bus 5 driver to stop on the way back to the hotel to get some provisions. I was rooming with Phil Grigson, Dale Asbhy, myself and yes a tuba player that I will call Jerry. Jerry was famous for making a cricket noise that could be heard everywhere in an open building. Such as the hotel we were staying in. Our roommate was celebrating extensively throughout the afternoon and evening. I can remember Jerry walking around the hotel with a big blue glass filled with nothing but KY Bourbon. By the end of the night no one knew what or where Jerry was until our band assistant band directors came knocking on our door after midnight (HC was not at this game). Jerry had gotten a little friendly with some of the alumni in the bar. As a matter of fact a little too friendly with a alumni's wife and they called the police to report his attitude. Our band directors were able to convince the authorities that they would handle this situation and brought Jerry back to our room. He was super drunk and I can remember laying in the Bed when Jerry and our directors arrived. They brought him in and he was very violent one minute and then sobbing the next. It was all I could do trying not to laugh as we acted like we were in bed asleep. Jerry ended up that night by punching a hole in the hotel wall thus breaking his hand. And going to the emergency room where he spit on the nurses. A quote from his drunken stupor will always be etched in my mind as he was crying and says" Rarry, nobody gives a rarry hats rass". I was laughing so hard inside that I could not believe this was happening. Needless to say, Jerry was suspended from the band and we never got to stay in the same hotel with the team the rest of the season. He also got stuck with repair on the room plus 3 nights lodging the hotel could not rent the room out. They were actually in the room the next morning as we were getting ready to leave starting the repairs as we took showers. What a night. I chose this story amongst many I could have told as the seats of Bus number 5 were always hoping on road trips.

Name: John Vidal   Years in the UK Drum Line: 1980-1981

Instrument(s) played: mallets, bass drum (#2)      Nickname: Rafael

Hometown: Lexington, Kentucky      High School Attended: Carol Morgan School

Where I am now: After several interesting and booze-infested years at UK, I graduated into a plush job selling (and subsequently marketing) alcohol beverages for a Louisville-based distiller and importer, Brown-Forman. Currently I am the National Marketing Manager for a premium, imported vodka - Finlandia Vodka of Finland.

Favorite UK Drum Line Memories: All memories have been washed from my brain and I am under a strict code of silence. All I have to say is the drum line was seriously underrated back then and even after we won the 1981 National Championships in Oakbrook, IL, we still never received our due honor. All we wanted was some respect (sigh). Or a six-pack of beer, whichever came first...

Name: Gary Johnson    Years in the UK Drum Line: 1980-1982

Instrument(s) played: snare, cymbals

Hometown: Lexington, Kentucky      High School Attended: Lafayette

Where I am now: I am currently Sports Director of WLEX-TV here in Lexington. I have been working for Channel 18 for the last 11 1/2 years. I Always remember my days with the UK Drum Line. It's where I learned how to drink and play some kick ass tunes. I'm married to the former Jimmie Barlow of Cynthiana Kentucky. We have two boys, Sam (10 yrs) and Max (7 yrs). Have no desire to leave Lexington. I enjoy my hometown and watching the Drum Lines over the years at the UK Football games. I was part of the 1981 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP in Chicago, but I hear no one knows where the Championship Trophy ended up...... HMMM. I remember Dale Ashby as a slave driver, but I had fun in spite of him.

Favorite UK Drum Line Memories: I remember when we traveled to Legion Field in Alabama, where KY met the Tide in either 1981 or 1982. Alabama Thrashed the CATS...it was Bear Bryant's 300TH win. The UK Football team sucked but the Drum Line put on one Hellava show including a drum break that included "Flight of the Bumble Bee". The Alabama Band just stood there with their mouths open. WE RULED.

Name: Gordon Smith    Years in the UK Drum Line: 1980-1982

Instrument(s) played: snare

Hometown: Lexington, Kentucky      High School Attended: Lafayette

Where I am now: Hey there! I'm one of those Spartan Marching Percussion Festival champs that brought Jim Campbell to UK. I never got to enjoy his expertise. I married Cathy Henderson in 1984 and have two beautiful daughters to show for it. Thank God they look like their mother!!! I work for WKYT-TV and have many opportunities to see the drum line.

Favorite UK Drum Line Memories: Most of the memories that I have are very faint as I was drunk at the time and really have no recollection of those days. However, I do remember stumbling through many football games with fellow drummer John Vidal close behind banging his bass drum. Of course, winning the Spartan Festival was a highlight. That was a great line full of good friends.

Name: Steve Stevens    Years in the UK Drum Line: 1980-1983

Instrument(s) played: snare

Hometown: Cold Springs, Kentucky      High School Attended: Campbell County

Drum Corps Experience: Golden Knights 1974 keyboard, 1975 tenor, 1978 snare, 1979 snare

Where I am now: I am Vice President of Public Affairs at the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. I do government affairs and am a lobbyist for business at the local, state and federal levels and spend much time in Frankfort and Washington, D.C. working to secure project funding and/or advocating public policy issues of my organization that consists of 2000 member firms.

I am married to the former Marilyn Howard of Murray, whom I met during early week in UK band in 1980. She played trumpet and fortunately for me, was forward enough to pull me away from the rest of the wallflower drum line to dance during a dance/social at camp. We were married four years later and that was twenty-two years ago - man, I feel old. We have two children - Stewart (11) and Logan (8). My son Stewart has been attending Drum Corps Shows since he was 2 and we never miss a season. (For you Cavs fans, they are his favorite corps and he has three T-shirts already. He's already a proficient pianist and I have no doubt he'll be working hard to be an accomplished snare). Marilyn is a Senior Medical Sales Rep. for Mead Johnson (Bristol Myers-Squibb).

Favorite UK Drum Line Memories: I remember arriving late for the first early week practice, but several years of drum corps helped to earn a place in the snare line. We had some great experiences, including earning the FIRST UK National Drum Line Championship. I was also fortunate to play in the All-American College Marching Band that opened EPCOT Center in Orlando. Marching band was great under Gordon Henderson - we were always behind the majorettes. I roomed with percussionists (Ashby & Grigson) and learned to love and appreciate jazz. I taught and arranged for many drum lines and was the head instructor for Lafayette HS for five years, during which the line won the Frank Arsenault Award for best line at the '83 MBA Nationals (Jim Campbell was a judge). We used to think the alums were a drag, but now that I am one, I wish I hadn't given them such a hard time.

Name: Billie (Fowlkes) Grant     Years in the UK Drum Line: 1980-1985

Instrument(s) played: mallets, bass drum

Where I am now: Hello Everybody!! I am living in the Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area. I am working as a Registered Nurse in critical care and hemodialysis part time. My terrific husband is a Podiatric Surgeon, and I have a son Eric, who is 9, and a daughter Casey, age 7. I stay busy working part time, daytrading as a hobby, helping my husband in his office, and taking the kids to numerous activities!! As far as keeping up with PERCUSSION, I currently teach once a week with the Twenhofel Middle School percussionists---look for them in a few years to be in the UK Drum Line!! (They love to hear UK Drum Line stories!!) -- It is great to see what everyone has been up to. Feel free to e-mail or look me up if you come up this way!!

Favorite UK Drum Line Memories: One of my favorite memories was a story about Steve Smith.  Steve had apparently had a really rough night of partying on a Friday night before a home game on Saturday.  He threw a frozen pizza in the oven that Friday night and apparently passed out and never got it out of the oven.  It cooked on 350 degrees for at least 7 hours.  Saturday morning we had our usual early morning drumline rehearsal at Shively.  We were warming up on the 50 yard line and Dale Ashby came walking in with the incinerated pizza on a cookie sheet and placed it on the sideline for everyone to see.  Even the cookie sheet was scorched.  It was hilarious.  Steve Smith, John Newhall, Don Newberry, Steve Elliot, Steve Stevens, you guys are the GREATEST!!  Also Hello to Dale Ashby and David James.

Name: Steve Smith      Years in the UK Drum Line: 1981-1985

Name: Phil Grigson     Years in the UK Drum Line: 1981-1984

Instrument(s) played: snare      Nickname: Shriner

Hometown: Maysville, Kentucky      High School Attended: Mason County

Where I am now: Married and have two great kids! My son Andrew (10) will start band next year. My daughter Erin (7) is planning on playing the flute and the Flag. GREAT! Occasionally I get together with a few of the old guys but mostly with the younger ones. Chris Vance is always good for a few dollars at the poker table! Hey Chris.....Thanks for breakfast!! My wife Vickie and I both teach in Paris, Kentucky and have since we graduated from UK. Vickie is now a certified administrator so we hope soon she will be making more money than I. Oh yea......Vickie also marched in the Drum Line one year. 1983 I think. I think she was worried about me and a certain spending too much time together.

Favorite UK Drum Line Memories: There are several but I guess the best was actually in percussion ensemble rehearsal one night. Steve Smith came in drunker than a monkey much to Dave Davenport's dismay.(You may or may not remember Dave but I can tell you he had a very hip side). This was not a scheduled rehearsal but everyone was there because we were throwing together a pops program full of jazz and pop charts. Anyway....Dave called Steve a drunken lush when he fell into the marimba and the fight was on. After we broke them apart Dave proceeded to pour out everyone beer on the floor in room 22. Yes, on the floor where the next day Harry would be teaching methods to all of us aspiring band directors. What's worse.....nobody cleaned it up!! To make things worse Tripp Bratton left an empty bag of chips and a banana peel on one of the music stands in the middle of the room. Needless to say Friday morning methods class was great fun, wondering which moment would be the one that Harry stuck to the floor and then realized he was standing in beer. If you want to know the rest.....e-mail. It was unbelievable, but I will tell you that Stu Waldner changed his major that very day!!! Something to do with being as dedicated as the xylophone over in the corner.

There was the time when we were headed for the Super Dome to play Tulane. Gordon insisted that we not drink anything until we stopped to rehearse later that morning for a group of high school students. What an invitation. Hell it was already 7:00 a.m. when we left! What was he thinkin'. Gordon was mad. I don't remember if he was madder at the drum line or the majorettes who kept throwing batons into the drum line. (We threw them back!!) Over and over again!!

Favorite UK Drum Line Memories: I remember the first time I saw Tripp and Stu...I thought they were wild. Also the first week of band camp when Philip saved me from being thrown in the fountain by the horn geeks. The bus trips were always fun with those funny tasting brownies :-) Glenn was always trying to get us in trouble, but then what are best friends for? The trip to Denver was great fun, although I wasn't very nice to a certain C.S. Patty was always a hoot. And I learned to appreciate many different types of music from the wide variety that was played on the bus trips.

Name: Doug Hamblin    Years in the UK Drum Line: 1983-1986

Favorite UK Drum Line Memories: Most memories I cannot reveal on grounds that they may incriminate me and those involved - But, those road trips! Who can forget the party on wheels, Tuba players eating grass (the stuff on your lawn) and grocery cart races while the bus was getting fixed?

Where I am now: Currently living in Manassas, VA (Civil War capital of the world) outside of Washington, D.C. Married Therese Ann Cummings on June 10, 1995. After graduating in the Spring of '90, I moved to Washington, D.C. to become an art director with a graphic design/ad agency run by an old school chum of mine. After about 8 years of graphic design and no money, I decided to get smart and moved to the "dark side" of the PC world (don't worry, my 2 macs at home are doing well, albeit a little ticked at me!). So I got my MCSE in January of '98 and became a network administrator (tedious work). I recently landed my dream job back in November. I now work in the network quality services division of UUNET - A WorldCom company, owners of the world's largest IP network infrastructure. If you surf the internet, you use our networks!

Favorite UK Drum Line Memories: Certainly cramming the survivors of "The Wreck of the Edmund FitzMorgan" into my 1976 Delta 88. I believe there were 8 of us, and the trip was only half over. And all Logan kept talking about is the fact that HE was the one who had just paid for the fill-up in Morgan's Fox!!! Does anyone remember the Ford Ranchero I had?! That certainly was a piece of work! A kegger and a gas grill chained to the back of that thing for tailgating. VERY nice! The drunken stupor after the bus breakdown in Knoxville. We used the $2.99 Toys-r-Us police helmets to hide that "glazed-over" look! So, you wanna ban 5-gallon hooch containers? Fine! Anyone want some brownies?! Feabaploy!- Anyone recall that delicacy known as "log of bologna and a squirt of Arby's sauce"? The not-so-funny episode of the flaming of Denny's Subaru? The not-so-funny episode of me, Screamer and Denny ending up backwards in a ditch outside of BeaverDam in Denny's Subaru? (stay away from Subaru's!) Scott Kentington Platypus Club - Margie down the stairs? "Shut up! Nancy's trying to study!" And, no, I don't remember the fight I had with Morgan in Chicago!!! What's up with that? Bombay Bicycle Club...Hospital, Diesel...ma-nana-na-na...pool and patio sale, save 40 to 50 percent! Buffet, all you can eat! Dave Farris "skipping to his loo" - "Mommy, mommy, I smell bread!" Rusty-huto! Pizza-crusto! Salty, EAT SOME FOOD! Larry's "cohanes"!

Name: Brian Morgan      Years in the UK Drum Line: 1985-89, 1991 staff

Instrument(s) played: snare

Hometown: Danville, Kentucky      High School Attended: Danville

Drum Corps Experience: Cavaliers 1987-88 snare

Where I am now: I am currently the Assistant Band Director at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Lexington, Kentucky. I have been married to my wife Shayni for 3.5 years, and we have a son named Austin who is 14 months old.

Favorite UK Drum Line Memories: Where do I start? I really appreciate all my friends including me in their memories.... Remember, my high school kids might read this! No seriously, I've tried to block out a lot of these memories, but the ones that I cherish the most are hanging out and drumming with my friends, getting into alit of trouble and making stupid mistakes (just read some of the other posts and you'll see). Getting to experience Feabaploy (sp?) with Mason, Rusty, Mark, and Denny. Annoying the crap out of Larry Byington. Good Friends like Timmy Logan (La La La), Glen Kotche, Brent Wright (Stromboli), Jim Corcoran, Jim Campbell, the Chicago trip, Nashville PAS (man that sucked! - but thank Silvia for the uniforms...Who's idea were those anyway?) Brent Farmer phasing on the Triplet Rolls, Ethington and Brawner not ever learning my name..."my name is Morgan!"

Name: Rob Hulsman     Years in the UK Drum Line: 1986-88

Instrument(s) played: bass drum

Hometown: Louisville, Kentucky      High School Attended: Delran, Delran, New Jersey

Rob HulsmanWhere I am now: I am married and have a son, Max, who is 2 1/2. I dropped out of school to tour with a rock band and ended up playing around the US, Europe and Canada for a number of years. I am currently in the band Taildragger with other alumni, Mark Hendricks (I play drums, he plays bass). I worked as a music/associate editor at ACE Magazine for many years, and now work at KET. My biggest hobby is collecting vintage drums. The most recent was a Leedy 26" bass drum from the 1940s.

Favorite UK Drum Line Memories: For the Marching Band trip to Mississippi (football season), Mark Hendricks and myself went to K-Mart and bought a plastic, 5 gallon gas tank (the kind you would strap on the back of a jeep). We filled it with gin and lemonade. On the way to Mississippi, we were to stop at Vol Stadium and practice. The percussion bus broke down a couple of times on the way, and at that point, we figured we wouldn't make it to practice with the rest of the band, sooooooo, out came the gin. Well, we did make it. All I remember is trying to play Euphistic Fantasia and walk a straight line. It is all one big orange blur.

But the biggest memory is traveling to Chicago to compete as a drum line in 87-88. It was an incredible experience (other than the car wreck on the way up). We did a Zappa program that was dead-on. We got second, but it was still a lot of fun and excitement. And then years later, after finally getting my video of the performance back from Dave Farris, Hendricks taped over it!!

About 3:00 am during the bus ride down someone screamed chickens**t! at the top of their lungs. Mike Frodge laughed for about 1/2 an hour straight. The best part though was during the half time performance at the game. David Ratliff had one of those toy guns that shoots the yellow plastic pellets. While playing with one hand he was shooting the snare line with the other, and when we got to the sideline he started shooting the LSU Band. One half of the tenor line couldn't play our parts because we were laughing so hard.

Favorite UK Drum Line Memories: One of my favorite memories is playing in the little blue band at the Indiana game my freshman year. Being led by Brent Farmer the band proceeded to play the UK Fight Song right in the middle of the Indiana fans at Commonwealth Stadium. At the point the disgruntled hoosiers started throwing bottles and everything else at us. RUN AWAY!!!!!

One of my all-time finest memories was during early week in 1992. The drum line was warming up next to Singletary facing Euclid when who decided to walk by, but hordes of sorority candidates all dressed in white. Now keep in mind that the drum line is smack dab in the middle of a warm-up when, someone who will remain nameless but whose name rhymed with Wheaty yelled, "I thought white was for virgins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Of course the whole line stopped playing and fell down laughing.

Other great memories include the tenor wall, the drum-a-thon in Paris, the Peach Bowl, parties at the Euclid house, and gettin' to play in the basketball band.

Email me some time anyone and keep me updated on what's going on!!!!

Favorite UK Drum Line Memories: Hmmm.....Getting in trouble for playing "snare/tenor" games at a football game. Also almost killing a certain female drum major who was also a drum corps drum major whose name shall remain nameless for now for trying to force me to take out my earrings at a football game and then having the nerve to threaten me with my scholarship. That was definitely a moment. Also the comp line snare line in '93. Casey, you're one crazy dude.

The whole drum line in a big circle all surrounding the Madonna Sex book while we should have been rehearsing. Ratliff grabbing his tenors and running downtown (on a whim) to ram a few notes...just to get some tickets to the Ringo Star concert...this was during camp. Showing up at camp looking like a migrant worker (because I worked outside all Summer for the water Dept.) and thus being granted the nickname Guido (see also Gui-toe, and Gui-f**king-toe). Counting all the brass members in the band and then realizing why Campbell just tossed the woodwinds in the back when writing the drill. A bass drummer setting off some guys car alarm with his bass, every 5 minutes, at just about every rehearsal. That look Shocker would give you when he tilted his head to the side saying "yeah man ..sure". Jim Campbell's 6 L's (look, listen, learn, live, lust & lawyer). Name: JD Menser      Years in the UK Drum Line: 2002

Instrument(s) played: cymbals     Nickname: Saltine

Hometown: Brandenburg, Kentucky      High School Attended: Meade County

Where I am now: This is Saltine, a member of the drumline last year.  In case anyone was wondering I am in the process of tranfering to Western Kentucky. I loved UK and all that it offered but because of certain financial situations I had to reexamine my priorities.  I was watching the game the other night and the ref was telling the band to stop playing the drums.  I thought that was just great and I had to tell you guys to keep up the good work.  I really miss everyone and I hope when things get better financially so I can have the option to transfer to LCC.  Well, in the meantime this is a present day Topper, but really a true-blue Wildcat saying thanks, and hopefully I'll see everyone soon.

Favorite UK Drum Line Memories: It is easy to say that best times were bus-bowls, or drum line parties, or the time when we made fun of the guys with mullets.  But I'd have to say the the best memory I can think of had to be in Rupp last year at the Mississippi State game.  I was back in our little secluded area when Richie Farmer came out and stood next to me.  I know that sounds goofy, but for me it was the coolest because Richie had been my hero growing up and to stand with him and talk to him about the game that was pretty cool.  I think that the best times were at the game feeling the atmosphere and just having fun.  I wasn't a very talented drummer, but I loved my teams.  Go Cats!
