Brian Mason

Brian Mason is highly respected in the development of the contemporary, marching percussion ensemble. He has traveled extensively throughout the United States, Japan, Korea and Mexico, and is in high demand as a teacher, arranger, performer and adjudicator.

Mr. Mason holds the position of Instructor of Percussion at Morehead State University in Morehead, KY, where he directs the award winning marching percussion ensemble and teaches in the music department. His secondary teaching outlet is the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps of Rockford, IL, where he is the Percussion Director and Designer. Prior to working with the Regiment, Brian was Percussion Director and Designer for the DCI Champion Rosemont Cavaliers. He also instructed and arranged for the Yamato, Sky Ryders, Bandettes, and Bluegrass Brass Drum and Bugle Corps, and was Director of the WGI Champion UNLV Competitive Drum Line.

Brian received his B. M. at the University of Kentucky and his M. M. at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He is currently a member of the Vic Firth Education Committee, the Percussive Arts Society Marching Percussion Committee, the Percussive Arts Society Health and Wellness Committee, and the DCI Task Force. He has published articles in Percussive Notes, has been interviewed in Modern Drummer and Band and Orchestra Magazine, and is a contributing editor for Stick It magazine. Brian has original works published through Row-Loff Productions, and co-authored the 2000 Modern Drummer Readers Poll's "No. 1 Drum Set Method Book," The Commandments of R&B Drumming, a Warner Brothers publication. Most recently, he has been in the studio with the contemporary Christian band, Simple Truth, recording their latest CD entitled, The Word.

Brian Mason's signature marching drumsticks and keyboard mallets are produced by the Vic Firth corporation. He also endorses Pearl Drums and Adams Musical Instruments, Evans drumheads, and Zildjian cymbals.
