John Willmarth received his B.M. in music education from the University of Kentucky where he studied with James Campbell and Dick Sisto. In 1996, he served as percussion instructor and arranger for the UK Marching Band. In addition to his association with the internationally renowned Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, John has served as a staff member for the Bands of America World Percussion Symposium, and at several Yamaha "Sounds of Summer" Camps. As a member of the Cavalier snare line, and as Drum Sergeant in 1995, John helped the drum line capture High Percussion honors in 1991, '92, and '95. He also placed fourth in the DCI individual solo snare drum competition in 1995.
John is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Percussion Performance at the University of Iowa under the direction of Dan Moore. He is active in both percussion and jazz areas of study and participates in a wide variety of university ensembles including percussion ensemble, jazz band, symphony band, and jazz combos. In addition, John serves as a teaching assistant for the University of Iowa Marching Band in which his responsibilities include teaching and arranging for the "Hawkeye" drum line.
