Welcome to UK School of Music!

Ben ArnoldIt is my great pleasure to welcome you to the UK School of Music and its Award-Winning Traditions. Founded in 1918, the UK School of Music has been educating students for nearly a century.

Our distinguished faculty, consisting of 44 full time professors, has recruited an amazing array of talented students who have propelled us to the forefront among public universities. Our students have toured in China, France, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Austria, and performed in legendary venues such as the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, Notre Dame in Paris, Montreux Jazz Festival, and San Marco in Venice. They have won national and international awards and our major ensembles across the board have distinguished themselves at prestigious conferences and venues. With more than 40 ensembles to choose from, there are many performance opportunities for music majors and non-majors alike.

We offer B.A., B.M. and B.M.M.E. undergraduate degrees and graduate degrees ranging from M.A. and M.M. to D.M.A. and Ph.D., including a new Masters in Music Therapy slated for Fall 2012. The only doctoral-granting institution in Kentucky, the UK School of Music has been offering graduate degrees in music for over forty years. Currently, 170 graduate students are enrolled in addition to an undergraduate population of approximately 230. Our alumni are successful music professionals and educators throughout the U.S. and beyond.

Located in the vital arts community of Lexington, Kentucky, the UK School of Music plays a leading role in the arts with over 200 performances and public lectures annually. Please explore our web pages, our performances on YouTube, and follow us on Facebook. Better yet, come join us as a student and experience the Award-Winning Tradition of great music making!
