UK School of Music Facilities
Fine Arts Building

Most of our facilities are in the Fine
Arts Building on Rose Street, which is also home to the Art, Arts Administration, and
Theatre Departments. Classrooms, administrative offices, practice rooms
and most faculty studios and offices are located in this building. The most visible facility with this building is the Guignol Theater, where UK Theatre present its main plays.
The late UK art professor John Tuska spent nine years creating "Illumine," a collection of 56 bronze figures showcased on the facade of the UK Fine Arts Building. The sculpture embraces the University of Kentucky and represents generations of learning and activity.
Singletary Center for the Arts
With a magnificent 1500-seat Concert Hall, a more intimate 388-seat
Recital Hall, plus spacious rehearsal and support spaces, the Singletary Center for the Arts is home to most student and faculty performances. The Center also
hosts diverse programs by campus and community groups, and world-class
artists. Located right next door to the Fine Arts Building on
the SW corner* of Rose and Euclid, the Singletary Center also houses
the UK Art Museum and several other useful spaces. MAP
Memorial Hall
Some performances are presented in Memorial Hall across campus
on South Limestone Street. Memorial Hall is the old college chapel
and its cupola has become the trademark image for the University. MAP
Lucille Caudill Little Fine Arts Library and Learning Center
Opened in Fall of 2000, the spectacular Lucille
Caudill Little Fine Arts Library and Learning Center now houses
all the library and listening materials for the College of Fine
Arts, including music, art, and theatre. This space, also adjacent
to the Fine Arts Building, has several smaller rooms for study
and seminars. MAP
Fine Arts Computer Lab
Opened in 2001 is the Fine
Arts Computer Lab, housed on the floor below the Lucille Little
Library. This $400,000 facility is operated by the UK
Systems Labs network and provides a state of the art learning/teaching
center for classes throughout the college. Complete with computers;
synthesizers; and sequencing, notation, and sound editing software
that complement instruction in Music Technology. MIDI (Musical
Instrument Digital Interface) equipment is used as an integral
part of teaching at UK.
Koinonia House
Koinonia House is located at the NE corner* of Rose Street and Rose Lane. It is the home of UK Opera. [MAP]
Wessels House
The Wessels House is on Rose Street at Patterson Drive next to the Singletary Center. It houses offices of the School of Music, especially the Muisic Education faculty offices. The building is named after the last UK campus engineer who lived here. It is officially called the "Old Engineer's Residence," but almost no one knows that.
408 Linden Walk
Second building from the SE corner* of Linden Walk and Euclid. It looks like (and is in fact) an old house. This building houses the Theory and Composition faculty offices.
147 Washington Avenue
At the NE corner* of Washington and Gladstone (campus Gate 2). This old house primarilly houses the studios for the string faculty.
* NOTE: Directions are approximate. Most of the main streets on campus to downtown Lexington actually run roughly NE-SW and NW-SE. When referring, for example, to a NE corner, it is relative to the street naming convention of streets south of Main Street and east of Limestone and may not technically be north or east by compass or GPS. .
