Graduate Programs in
Musicology and Ethnomusicology

The University of Kentucky offers two graduate tracks in Musicology and Ethnomusicology:

1. A combined M.A./Ph.D. program requiring three years of coursework prior to the dissertation. This is intended for well-qualified applicants with a Bachelor’s degree. Applicants with an M.A. from the University of Kentucky (except for a terminal Master’s) or another institution may bypass the first year of this program.
2. A separate M.A. program requiring three semesters of study and a thesis, intended for those holding a Bachelor’s degree with a less comprehensive background or those who desire only a Master’s degree. Upon successful completion of the M.A., graduates may then apply for the Ph.D. program as indicated above.
