For Children (K-12)

UK String Project
Lexington elementary and middle school students who participate in their school orchestras are eligible to participate in weekly Saturday morning class instruction at UK. Master teachers assisted by graduate string students. Contact Daniel Mason: 859-257-3575 or dmason@uky.edu.

Pianofest Keyboard Ensemble Camp

Kentucky Band Camp

The James Campbell Drumline Camp

Tubas Around the World - A musical tour of countries and cultures  
Presented by the University of Kentucky Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble directed by Dr. Skip Gray.

This program presents a guided world tour that discusses people and places using music as the inspiration and link. The tour begins in the United States and moves through France, England, Russia, Italy, Germany, Poland, Nigeria, Brazil, Australia, Mexico, and back home to Kentucky.  In addition to cultural aspects of each nation, specific musical terms and concepts are discussed and demonstrated including meter, Rondo form, major and minor scales, ballet, dynamics, African Drumming, jazz, and much more.

Geared towards K-5, also adapted to Middle and High School levels. The approximate time required for performance is adaptable from 45 to 70 minutes; a typical presentation lasts 55 minutes. Study guide materials are provided. Program cost is: single performance-$350; multiple performances in same location on same day-$300 each. Advanced Choral Conducting (MUP 558, MUP 658, MUP 758)

Keyboard Ensemble and Technology Seminar

UK Opera Theatre/Lexington Opera Society Opera Outreach Program
Taking opera to K - 6 students and communities across Kentucky that may not otherwise have opportunities to experience it. Headed by Everett McCorvey, this program will take opera into areas of the Commonwealth that cannot afford to present the art form. The UK Opera Theatre will hold performances primarily for children in grades K-6 but also in many communities, particularly in eastern Kentucky and the most remote areas of the state. The program's ultimate goal is to increase the impact of the fine arts and art in general within the Commonwealth, providing improvements to the quality of life across the state. This is a UK Commonwealth Collaboratives Quality of Life program.

Opera 101 Lecture Series
Tedrin Blair Lindsay, instructor, speaks about classic operas from 10AM to noon, Saturdays from January to March, at Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Lexington Green. It's a Grand Night for Singing!
June. Have you ever dreamt of performing in a Broadway show? Participation in UK Opera Theatre's annual celebration of great song and dance from Broadway and beyond is open by audition to anyone. Volunteers are also accepted for technical support, including scenery builders, costumers, painters, etc. Auditions are normally in March or April.
