Festival of Strings

Festival of Strings students from all three programs perform in concert on the final day of camp, Saturday, June 13.  Space is still available in each of the programs.  If anyone is interested please contact camp director Clyde Beavers at 859-266-3476 as soon as possible. In some instances auditions may be waived and inability to attend one or two days of camp will not prohibit participation.  All camp events will be located at Central Baptist Church across from Fayette Mall (110 Wilson Downing Road, Lexington, KY 40517).

The nationally prominent University of Kentucky String Project is now in its eighth year. With support from the UK School of Music, Strings magazine and the National String Project Consortium, UKSP provides low-cost instrument instruction on violin, viola, cello and bass for children from age 8 and up. The teachers are UK music students working with the assistance of experienced mentor teachers Nancy Campbell, Margie Karp. The UK String Project is a member of the National String Project Consortium, an organization committed to the development and growth of string education across the nation.

Instruction takes place on Saturday mornings in the UK College of Fine Arts.

UKSP start date TBA.

• Intermediate and Advanced: Classes are 10:00 AM to noon and meet every Saturday.
• Beginners (age 8 & up): Classes are 9:00 AM to 10:00 and meet every Saturday.

Important Information for University of Kentucky String Project Students

• Every week, please bring: Your instrument, a music stand, and a pencil!
• The University of Kentucky String Project teachers are available for supplemental private lessons. The fee is $10/half hour.
• If you miss more than one Saturday, we ask that you schedule a make-up lesson. If you must miss more than three Saturdays in a semester, please contact us at 859-257-9683.
