Classes take place on Saturday mornings in the UK College of Fine Arts and cost about $10 each for beginners!
University of Kentucky String Project runs from September to November and from January to April.
- Intermediate and Advanced: Classes are 10:00 AM to noon and meet every Saturday.
- Beginners (age 8 & up): Classes are 9:00 AM to 10:00 and meet every Saturday.
The nationally prominent University of Kentucky String Project is beginning a ninth year in Lexington, Kentucky! With support from the UK School of Music, Strings magazine and the National String Project Consortium, UKSP provides low-cost instrument instruction on violin, viola, cello and bass for children from age 8 and up. The teachers are UK music students working with the assistance of experienced mentor teachers Nancy Campbell and Margie Karp. The Director is Lexington Philharmonic Concertmaster, Daniel Mason.
The UK String Project is a member of the National String Project Consortium, an organization committed to the development and growth of string education across the nation.

Important Information for University of Kentucky String Project Students
- Every week, please bring: Your instrument, a music stand, and a pencil!
- The University of Kentucky String Project teachers are available for supplemental private lessons. The fee is $10/half hour.
- If you miss more than one Saturday, we ask that you schedule a make-up lesson. If you must miss more than three Saturdays in a semester, please contact us at 859-257-9683.
