David Steinmetz

 

David joined the theatre faculty at University of Kentucky in the fall of 2005 as Technical Director. He graduated from Otterbein College with a B.F.A. in Theatrical Design/Technology (1993). He earned his M.F.A. in Scenic Technology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2005).

After graduating from Otterbein, David went on to work for the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts where he received a Meritorious Achievement Award for his role as the House Production Manager for the Region III American College Theatre Festival, sponsored by the Kennedy Center, at the Vern Riffe Center in Columbus, Ohio.

Through the next years, he worked for the University of the Virgin Islands in St. Thomas (USVI), the Alley Theatre (LORT B/D) located in Houston, Texas, and the Indianapolis Civic Theatre. At the Civic, he was key to an era of technical advance introducing automation to the oldest operating civic theatre in the nation. He helped to create dynamic shows including Anything Goes, Lend Me a Tenor, and Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat.

While working toward his Masters degree at the University of Illinois, David served as the Technical Director for the Danville Symphony Orchestra presenting guest artists such as Anthony Kearns (one of the Irish Tenors).

During the past three Summers, David worked as the Technical Director for the New Harmony Theatre (LORT D) under Scott LaFeber (Artistic Director), creating sets for shows like Cowgirls, As Thousands Cheer, A Moon to Dance By (world premier), and The Odd Couple.

With over a decade of professional experience in a wide variety of venues and companies ranging from opera, theatre, dance, classical music, rock concerts, and business multi-media events, David is excited about teaching and preparing students to enter the professional world.
