Richard St. Peter is in his fifth season as Artistic Director of Actors Guild of Lexington, during which time he has produced over 30 shows and directed nine. For AGL’s 25 th Anniversary season, he will direct the 2007 Pulitzer Prize winning drama Rabbit Hole, Lisa Loomer’s The Waiting Room and the world premiere of celebrated Kentucky author Silas House’s new play, Long Time Travelling.
Some of his favorite AGL directing credits include Stop Kiss, the solo shows The SantaLand Diaries and Fully Committed, Tartuffe and his multimedia production of Hamlet, which was featured in the January 2008 issue of American Theatre Magazine.
As a producer, some of his favorite AGL credits include Art, Vincent in Brixton, Crowns, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, The Underpants, Exits and Entrances, Boston Marriage and The Story. Other directing credits include: Weak/Side/Help (the University of Kentucky world premiere), Romeo and Juliet (Cincinnati Shakespeare Company), The Two Gentlemen of Verona (Centre College),The 22 Day Adagio (Mill Mountain Theatre), Lobby Hero (Theatre IV), The Laramie Project (Theatre IV), Christopher Marlowe’s Edward II (Live Arts), bash: latterday plays (Theatre IV), The Taming of the Shrew (Barksdale Theatre), Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde (Barksdale Theatre), Jails, Hospitals & Hip-Hop (Theatre Virginia, Barksdale Theatre, Theatre IV), and subUrbia (Theatre IV).
Academically, Rick has taught or guest lectured at Rose Bruford College (London, England), the University of Kentucky, Centre College, the University of Toledo, Kentucky State University, Christopher Newport University, Virginia Union University, and Virginia Commonwealth University.
In 2002, Rick received a prestigious Princess Grace Foundation Theater Award. He is a 2007 participant in the LaMaMa/Umbria International Director’s Symposium held in Spoleto, Italy, a 2004 participant in Theatre Communication Group’s New Artistic Leader Institute (held at the McCarter Theatre at Princeton University), a member of the Lincoln Center Theater Director’s Lab and the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers (SSDC).
Rick’s community involvement includes being a 2006 graduate of Leadership Lexington, serving on the Advisory Board of Bluegrass Community and Technical College’s new Film and Theatre program, and sitting on the Board of Directors for the Downtown Lexington Corporation; regionally he serves on the Editorial Board and occasionally writes articles on theatre for Southern Theatre Magazine. In 1998, he received his MFA in Stage Directing from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA.
He is also the proud husband of actor and teacher Lara St. Peter and father of Olivia and Aidan St. Peter.
