General Education Reform
Estimated
Instructional Cost Differential
At a meeting of the University Senate on April 13, 2009, Provost Subbaswamy shared his estimate of the cost for the proposed General Education program. The costs assume that the new program will promise greater opportunities for students to engage themselves, their classmates and their instructors in discussions about the course material. The Provost shows in his cost estimates (see below) that he has committed his support for a major step in fulfilling that promise — all large enrollment classes, those with enrollments of more than 40 students, will incorporate a break-out session, either as a recitation section or lab.
