The
use of human
subjects in research at UCSF falls under the jurisdiction
of federal regulations (45 CFR 46 and 21 CFR 50 and
56). UCSF investigators are granted the privilege of
using human subjects under the terms of a formal assurance
to the government that research conducted at UCSF complies
with these regulations protecting human
subjects. All projects involving human subjects,
regardless of the site of activity or the funding source,
or whether or not there is any funding, that are conducted
by UCSF
faculty must be reviewed and approved by the Committee
on Human Research (CHR), which is the Institutional
Review Board (IRB) for UCSF. All participants who conduct
or support research involving human subjects must be
aware of applicable regulations, policies, and standards
of professional conduct and practice.
