UK Staff & Faculty News - May 2010
As we close out the spring semester, it's fitting that we pay tribute to the many wonderful UK students who work as part of our departments each year. Please take a moment to read this month's feature on Kaelysia Woods, who was recognized at our recent Student Employee of the Year ceremony. Also this month, please check out the updates on Staff Appreciation Day (including a new Fun Night special event) and much more.

Meet UK's 2010 Student Employee of the Year
UK recently held its third annual Student Employee of the Year ceremony, which recognizes the unique contributions made by students in UK departments campus-wide. Each year, UK departments nominate dozens of employees for this honor. This year's winner, Management major Kaelysia Woods, was recognized for serving as a role model for fellow students working in UK's Office of Student Involvement. UK Healthtrac Rewards makes good health pay in so many ways!
For the 09-10 fiscal year, 31 percent of those eligible are participating in UK Healthtrac Rewards. That's nearly 7,000 UK employees, retirees and their spouses or sponsored dependents on a UK Health Plan making good health pay. In addition, more than 2,000 are participating in BeH.I.P., a free telephone-based program that pairs you with a personal health coach to improve your health status.
Your next chance to take the Health Assessment will begin in mid-July. Watch your inbox and mailbox for details this summer. For more information, visit the Web site.
In addition to earning up to $180 per year for participating, Healthtrac participants are also enjoying some other great perks, like occasional prize drawings:
The UK Wildcat surprised one lucky Healthtrac participant with two tickets to the UK Athletics CATSPY Awards in April. Graham Gray, an employee with UK's Physical Plant Division, enjoyed the CATSPY event with his son, a UK student.

Master the 30-Day Rule
Whenever you're considering making an unnecessary purchase, wait thirty days and then ask yourself if you still want that item. Quite often, you'll find that the urge to buy has passed and you'll have saved yourself some money by simply waiting. If you want, you can even keep a "thirty day list" where you write down the item and the day you'll reconsider it, but I prefer just to keep this one in my head - that way, I often just forget about the unimportant things. From "100 Tips for Saving Money." For more, visit The Simple Dollar Web site.
Since the UK Start! Moving Challenge began in June 2009, 784 employees have participated. Participants logged nearly 16,000 hours of physical activity; 173 million steps; and 57,000 miles. Add your activity to that total! Join the Summer Challenge today.
Thanks to all UK staff and faculty who showed their support for the American Heart Walk on April 24. Together with other organizations in our community, we made a difference! The UK Human Resources team was proud to contribute over $2,000 to the Gill Heart Institute team's $35,000+ fundraising total.
