Boats Against the Current is an original work commissioned by UK Work-Life/Elder Care and written by a UK Theatre graduate, William H. McCann, Jr. The script was written in recognition of National Family Caregivers Month and National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month. The goal is to keep the conversation going and increase awareness of Alzheimer’s disease.

The script focuses on a Lexington family as they struggle to come to terms with a family member’s diagnosis.

Alzheimer’s disease has a huge impact on our society. According to the Alzheimer’s Association 5.4 million Americans are living with the disease. That includes one in eight older Americans. In addition, 15 million Americans help by serving as unpaid caregivers for persons with Alzheimer’s and other dementias with a contributed value of $210 billion.*
