Meet the UK Elder Care Staff
Terri L. Kanatzar, MSW, Elder Care Coordinator
I have worked at UK and with the Elder Care program since 1997. My prior experience includes case management and working with adults with mental retardation and developmental disabilities. I really enjoy my job at UK. I find it very rewarding helping employee’s with their care giving struggles and finding resources. Elder Care can be very overwhelming to families, and caregivers often times struggle with understanding the services and programs available to older adults. Therefore, this program really makes a difference in the lives of many employees by reducing their stress and the amount of days missed from work, because we find these resources for them.
On a personal level, I am married with two beautiful children ages 7 and 5. I enjoy being active with my kids, playing basketball, dancing, and skating! I also enjoy listening to music, going to the movies, and just spending quality time with my family.

Janice Austin, MSW, Elder Care Specialist
I have been working in aging services since getting my Master's Degree in 1995. Finding purpose and fulfillment in a career is most important at this stage of my life. UK Elder Care allows me to use my knowledge and skills to assist employees and retirees with their older family member’s needs. I have been in the role of caregiver, so I understand and emphasize with the joys and stresses they experience.
On a personal level, I enjoy my four children, five grandchildren, book clubs, writing, and “antiquing or junking”. I am President Elect of the Woman’s Club of Central Kentucky, which was formed in 1894 and is the oldest women’s club in the nation. I also participate in numerous community and professional groups, and feel very passionate about being an advocate for change when needed.
Teaching part time in the College of Social Work gives me the opportunity to enjoy the students and continue learning and maximizing my brain. I am constantly nourished by their fresh approach to life.
Finally, I consider a sense of humor to be one of my most important attributes. Being able to laugh at myself and life’s twists and turns helps keep me grounded.
