UK Health & Wellness Initiatives

Health & Wellness programs such as the UK Healthtrac Rewards Program are helping employees become more aware of their health status and aligning University resources to help them make positive lifestyle and behavior changes.

Key Success Metrics from Healthtrac Rewards Program
• 7,000 individuals have completed their survey and visited their personal health page.
• 82% of participants return to their ‘personal health page’ each month.
• Over 4,500 individuals received follow-up phone calls from Personal Health Counselors regarding the results of their report.
• 38% of all active eligible UK members are participating in the Healthtrac Rewards Program
Participant Self-report
• 5% fewer smoking
• 15% more reporting physical exercise
• 33% increase in exercise minutes/week
• 53% increase in women age 52+ receiving mammograms
• 28% improvement in confidence about ability to improve health
• 5% decrease in self-reported medical costs

Additional Health & Wellness Programs
Annual 5K Run/Walk
– Co-sponsored with John’s Run Walk Shop and Bluegrass Runners
– $800 was donated to the With One Heart Tsunami Relief Fund and to the Hope Center Exercise and Recovery Program
– 161 participants in 2005

Wildcat Walk (periodic group walk program)
– 161 participants in Fall 2005

Chair Massage
– Unable to market program because always “sold out” of appointments
– 60 filled appointments each month

Free Health Screenings
– 45 appointments filled each month

Annual Wellness Conference
– Held every year for 14 years
– 180 attendees in May 2005

Walking Women Wednesdays
– Partnership with UK Women’s Place
– Average 15 people per week

Farmers’ Market Bus Ride
– Pickup on campus at 5 locations
– Promotes healthy eating and supports local economy
– Service available from June through September
– Average 15 participants per week

Healthy Cooking Classes
– 25 participants each class

Health Benefits 101 Classes
– Average 113 visits per month for FY 05-06

• Online Health Plan Decision Support Tool
– Average 326 visits per month for FY 05-06

Body Shop Fitness (on-site gyms)
– 450 participants
– 2 gym facilities located on campus (Seaton and Alumni)
– 28 separate Group Fitness/Mind/Body classes offered
• Free Nutrition Consults
– Individual consultations about diet and nutrition
– Average 12 appointment each month

Weight Loss Matters (classes)
– Two locations on campus
– 50 people currently enrolled in session

Wildcat Wheels Bike Library
– Partnership with Resident’s Life, Student Government and Parking & Transportation
– Free bike rental for up to 72 hrs for employees and students
