Staff Shared Leave Pool Donation Period Open Through August 31
August 6, 2008 - Throughout the month of August, UK staff may donate accrued vacation time to the UK Staff Shared Leave Pool. This "pool" consists of paid leave time donated by UK employees for the benefit of fellow staff who have exhausted paid leave due to illness or other adverse circumstances. UK staff employees may donate a portion of their unused vacation leave to the pool each year in August.
The one-month donation period currently underway will expand on the program’s successful first year, which saw nearly 150 employees donate over 3,400 hours of accrued vacation leave! In less then one year since the pool was established, applicants in need have already benefited from using well over 2,000 hours of donated time.

Regular status employees with an assignment of 0.5 FTE or greater who have exhausted all their paid leave because of a catastrophic illness are eligible to apply for Shared Leave Pool benefits. Other eligibility criteria apply. To request this benefit, employees must complete an application form, which is available on the Staff Shared Leave Pool Web site.
