Monthly Message from the Work-Life Director
October Greetings from the Director

Work + Life - Live It!
How do we stay positive in the face of increasing unemployment, increasing health care costs and growing insecurity? This year the University of Kentucky is celebrating National Work and Family Month with a focus on moving beyond the economic constraints that surround us. To help you maintain your quality of life, we invite you to learn about the different ways you can maximize your UK benefits and stay positive. Attend the UK Women’s Forum, “Living Fully in Lean Times” on October 14 or the Free Resource Fair on October 22 to learn how to maximize your benefits. To build mental resilience and improve your mental outlook, attend our keynote address by nationally recognized Dr. William Irvine, who will address “A Guide to the Good Life” on October 22 from 12-1 in the W.T. Young Library Auditorium. Co-sponsored by the UK Department of Philosophy, Dr. Irvine will provide an engaging and modern application of the ancient philosophy of stoicism.
Now more than ever, we must be creative in the ways that we harness resources to thrive, and our supervisors can be instrumental in helping in the workplace. To honor those supervisors who are most supportive, join us on Oct. 28 for our second annual Work-Life Supervisor of the Year Luncheon. The award winner and four finalists recognized during the luncheon will surely be inspirational.
Lastly, more activities will follow in November when the Work-Life Office celebrates National Family Caregiving month, so watch for further announcements.
All my best,
Robynn
