All Staff & Faculty Encouraged to Complete UK@Work Survey
October 2010 - On October 5, all UK staff and faculty will receive an e-mail invitation to complete the UK@Work survey.
Need to complete the survey but can't find your e-mail invitation? Visit this page for instructions and a link to complete the survey online now.
This will mark the launch of the second work-life survey of all regular full-time UK employees, following the inaugural UK@Work survey in 2005-06. [The survey is administered every five years.] The upcoming 2010 survey fulfills one of President Todd's major goals for the overall work-life initiative he began early in his tenure: Namely, to routinely assess employee perceptions of the University and to continually improve the University's work environment.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- All staff and faculty are strongly encouraged to participate in the UK@Work survey in October.
- Results will be seriously considered in the development of both current and new initiatives. Results from the previous UK@Work survey in 2005-06 led such changes as the addition of the Family Education Program (tuition benefit), expanded flexible work arrangements, career development resources, employee counseling/assistance program, sponsored dependent benefits, staff laptop loan program, and targeted compensation adjustments, among others. Survey feedback has also shaped long-term planning for expanded on-campus child facilities.
- All survey participants may enter to win an optional drawing for great prizes, including an Apple iPad, one of ten vacation days, UK basketball tickets or football tickets, an Apple iPod Touch, six-month "E" parking pass, and more. Visit this page for complete list of survey incentives.
- Bottom line - your feedback matters! Please take the survey and encourage your co-workers to do the same! Supervisors, please allow employees to complete the survey on work time.
The survey will be administered by UK Work-Life and the UK Office of Institutional Research, Planning and Effectiveness. Survey responses will remain confidential and will be reported in aggregrate only: Individual responses will not be shared under any circumstances.
UK@Work Survey Helps Shape Decisions Involving Employee Benefits, Pay, Culture and Programs
Since 2005-06, employee satisfaction and engagement have become an increasingly integral part of the University's long-term goals: The University's 2009-14 Strategic Plan calls for improvements to overall employee satisfaction and commitment, as measured by the UK@Work survey.
Feedback from the survey will help shape our workplace culture to ensure we're as productive as possible, both at work and at home. The UK@Work initiative embodies what President Todd has described as respect for the "whole person" - with the understanding that leading employers must take an active role in supporting employees' desire to take part in meaningful work while also successfully managing family/personal responsibilities.
Wondering about how meaningful your feedback may be? Consider this: Within two years of the 2005-06 survey, the University implemented a number of new initiatives, including the Family Education Program (tuition benefit for dependents), expanded flexible work arrangements, career development, employee counseling/assistance programs, among others. Additionally, a market compensation study following the survey resulted in compensation adjustments for more than one-quarter of all campus employees. Plus, work environment questions provided greater awareness of the need for more thorough and consistent communication and improved change management across our entire organization. That work continues even today.
So, remember, your feedback can make a huge impact. Please take the survey and encourage others to do the same. We look forward to your input!
