President Todd Appoints Special Work-Life Committees

November 2006 President Lee T. Todd, Jr. has appointed representative committees charged with reviewing key issues highlighted by UK@Work staff and faculty survey results, which were presented by UK Work-Life to the University community in October. Committee recommendations will be submitted through the Work-Life Advisory Council, which has been charged with crafting an overall long-term strategy supportive work environment at the University.

The Work-Life special committees include the following (continue below for committee membership):

Employee Education Program Committee

Committee members will review issues involved with extending the employee tuition benefit to dependents and spouses and issue recommendations. After reviewing possible options, the committee will issue recommendations regarding the tuition benefit.

Child Care Committee

Using data from a feasibility study conducted earlier this year, the child care committee is charged with developing solution(s) for providing two on-side child care centers for faculty and staff.  More specifically, the purpose is to develop and issue the RFP and provide oversight for the selection of an operator.

Career Advancement /Professional Development Committee

The goal of this committee is to provide recommendations about enhancing the availability of information and opportunities.  Specifically, the committee will examine various strategies and solutions, including, but not limited, to the following:  improved communication about job opportunities; job/career coaching; monetary incentives for completing a GED; and a staff designated academic advisor and career counselor.

Employee Assistance Program Committee
This committee will provide a report on the feasibility of offering a comprehensive Employee Assistance Program for personal counseling.  Specifically, the purpose is to examine the feasibility of offering such as program through exploring various options, including a review of existing resources.

Domestic Partner Benefits Committee

This committee will examine the feasibility of offering domestic partner benefits, as well as defining potential eligibility and relevant benefits.

The committees will submit their recommendations to the UK Work-Life Advisory Council, and, if necessary, to the Employee Benefits Committee.  If there are financial implications for the 2007 budget, recommendations must be submitted to the Work-Life Advisory Council no later than January 15, 2007. Final reports will be submitted to the Work-Life Advisory Council no later than May 21, 2007.
