Choosing a Quality Child Care Program

  1. Start early and assess your family’s needs
    • schedule, duration, cost, location, etc

  2. Speak to your local & national experts:
  3. Visit the potential programs and ask questions:
    Sample questions include –
    • Facility’s accreditation, certification and/or license?
    • Facility’s physical condition – clean, safe, inviting to children?
    • Caregiver’s qualifications, training and length of time at center?
    • Is a staff person certified in CPR and First Aid on duty at all times?
    • Staff to Child ratio? Is this depended on child’s age?
    • Group Size? Is this depended on child’s age?
    • Balance of quiet and active play?
    • Are there age appropriate activities and materials that promote the development of the child?

  4. Evaluate all options and make a choice

  5. Stay involved
