Tips for Pregnant Employees
ParkingSometimes walking long distances can be difficult and dangerous when you are pregnant. If you are experiencing a difficult pregnancy that impedes you walking long distances, consider a temporary disabled parking permit. For more information, go to http://www.uky.edu/Parking/permits-disabled.html.
Note: When completing the application, be sure that your physician provides a detailed description of your medical condition. Simply writing “pregnant” is cause for automatic denial by PTS, as pregnancy is not viewed as a medical condition. Upon submission of your request, you will be given a permit until your application has been reviewed by the PTS.
CommutingTo avoid driving and parking, you might want to share a ride to work. For finding a ride-sharing match, check out AlterNetRides at http://www.uky.edu/Parking/transportation-ridematch.html
TelecommutingDepending upon the nature of your work, you might want a more flexible work arrangement for the duration of your pregnancy. To find out more about flexible work arrangement guidelines, go to http://www.uky.edu/HR/WorkLife/toolkits.html or speak to a Work Life Specialist. Flexible work arrangements must be approved by your supervisor.
ChildcareOnce you are pregnant, it is never too early to get on day care centers’ waiting lists for childcare. There are two on-site child care centers at UK: the Early Child Lab and Woodland Early Learning Center (formerly KinderCare). For more information about these centers and others, go to http://www.uky.edu/HR/WorkLife/childcare.html.
Working Mothers Support GroupHaving a baby is a life-changing event that will dramatically alter how you live and work. For first hand knowledge and advice, join other UK moms each month from noon-1 p.m. For more information and meeting dates, contact the Work-Life Office or visit http://www.uky.edu/HR/WorkLife/events.
