As part of UK's celebration of National Work and Family Month in October, UK Work-Life has organized a series of brown bag events (see complete list below) designed to help UK employees balance work and personal responsibilities - and to assist managers and supervisors with work-life support issues.  Event topics were guided by the feedback from recent staff and faculty UK@Work surveys. Smoking Cessation: The Cooper/Clayton Method Across the State of Kentucky

Sponsored by UK College of Public Health

The Cooper/Clayton Method is a 12-week, group oriented, comprehensive, behavioral smoking cessation program that utilizes nicotine replacement products tailored to the needs of each smoker in the group. It is based on an assumption that most smokers are dependent on nicotine and that nicotine dependence can be treated pharmacologically. The program deals with exercise, eating, depression and other factors associated with smoking and nicotine dependence. This program is delivered throughout Kentucky through a partnership among Drs. Cooper and Clayton, the Kentucky cancer program, and public health departments across Kentucky.

CATS Path Walk & Talk

Sponsored by UK Women’s Place

Women’s Place is the unit on campus designated to address the perpetration of violence against women at the prevention and response levels. Part of this work involves educating the campus community about risks to safety and the resources available to minimize that risk. The Cats Path is a recent addition to UK’s campus, and is a central pathway through campus that is well-lit, well-traveled, and well-landscaped. It is the recommended route for walking through campus, particularly after hours. The CATS PATH WALK & TALK will be a guided tour of the path led by Women’s Place, and will include information about other campus resources, understanding safety risks, and safety-related services and resources available to faculty and staff.
