Livestock/Greenhouse Systems Engineer
Summary:
The position is 12-month, tenure track Extension Title Series. The successful candidate is expected to develop a nationally recognized Extension (60-75%) and Research (25-40%) program to support Kentucky agriculture in the areas of facilities design and environmental control. In addition to providing support for the College of Agriculture's Equine Initiative other opportunities for extension and research programs include plant and animal environment systems, structures, animal care and handling systems, high-value greenhouse and tunnel systems, or air quality issues relevant to the state's agriculture. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing statewide extension programs with supporting educational materials for extension personnel, commodity groups, producers, and industry and agribusiness personnel. Further duties include conducting applied research; procuring external funding to assist in program support and research projects; publishing recommendations and results in appropriate scholarly journals and media; advising graduate students; and organizing workshops, tours, field days in support of research and extension programs. Regional and national interdisciplinary extension and research programs are encouraged. Teaching opportunities can be pursued and are encouraged.
Skills & Abilities:
- An earned doctorate in Biological or Agricultural Engineering or related area and eligibility for professional engineering registration
- Educational background in facilities design and environmental control
- Strong communications skills (both written and oral)
- Experience with engineering for livestock, poultry or greenhouse production systems (strong consideration will be given to individuals with experience in several areas, experience in one area is required)
- Ability and desire to work with other Extension engineering/commodity specialists, research faculty, producers, and public, private and governmental agencies

Coordinator of Cataloging and Metadata
Summary:
Under the direction of the Head of the Access Records Management Department, the Coordinator of Cataloging and Metadata provides cataloging support and expertise for materials in a diverse range of formats and languages, using appropriate metadata and cataloging standards.
The Coordinator of Cataloging and Metadata hires, trains, and supervises the work of staff in the Cataloging and Metadata Unit. The Coordinator assists as needed in the production of MARC records for the library catalog and is responsible for cataloging materials in a variety of formats, including preparing original bibliographic and authority records, and participating in evaluating potential bulk record loads and manages loads as appropriate. In addition, the Coordinator works closely with staff throughout Collections and Technical Services and other divisions to provide access to the Library's collections, serves as consultant and trainer for all Collections and Technical Services staff in new cataloging and metadata processes, as well as assists in preparing documentation of cataloging and metadata practices and procedures. The Coordinator assists in planning and implementing initiatives to forward the library's goals for creating new cataloging environments.
The Coordinator of Cataloging and Metadata is responsible for organizing access to networked information resources using traditional and emerging metadata schema, and for integrating production of metadata into the balance of the work of the Collections and Technical Services Division, including responsibility for training staff members in the production of metadata. The Coordinator assumes responsibility as the lead cataloging specialist for digital planning projects and assists with archival and repository management of digital projects. Actively participates in the library's research and development efforts and in local and national discussions relating to the access, retrieval, and management of objects in digital library systems.

- ALA-accredited MLS. Substantial cataloging experience in multiple formats. Experience with supervision, teaching, and training of staff. Preferred: Experience managing digital materials.

Librarian
Head of Collections
Summary:
The Head of Collections coordinates and provides support for the collection activities of academic liaisons to assure the ongoing high quality of library collections in all disciplines and formats. The position reports to the Associate Dean for Collections and Technical Services and is a member of the Library's Collection Advisory Committee.
The Head of Collections hires, trains, and supervises the work of staff and students in the Financial Services, Gifts-in-Kind, and Federal Government Documents Units. This position assists in monitoring a collections budget of over $10,000,000, develops collection review and analysis processes, and communicates collection issues and procedures effectively to library users and staff.
The Head of Collections works closely with the Coordinator of Electronic Resources, Head of Acquisitions, and the academic liaisons to identify, acquire and manage information in an increasingly electronic environment. The librarian serves as academic liaison to one or more selected disciplines. Actively monitors national trends, standards, and policies in relation to collection development and scholarly communication.
