Graduate Student Positions and Background Checks
House Bill 3 requires any person on campus who qualifies as an initial hire of the University to receive a Pre-employment National Background Check (PNBC); this will include hires into academic merit positions such as Graduate Assistant, Research Assistant, and Teaching Assistant.
Non-service fellowship recipients are not classed as employees, and so will not require the PNBC.
Through use of the Direct User feature of the Online Employment System (click here for details), departments can process the PNBC on incoming graduate student assistant hires.
