What is an "Initial Hire"
With respect the Pre-employment National Background Check (PNBC) requirement, HR Employment's working definition of an "initial hire" is any individual who is either working at the University of Kentucky for the first time or one who has been separated from the University for more than one calendar year.
HR Employment's working definition of "employee" involves the following requirements
- Requires an I-9 form to be completed;
- Employment taxes withdrawn from their UK checks; and
- Receives a W-2 at the end of the year.
Any individual who meets the criteria for both "initial hire" and "employee" must undergo the Pre-Employment National Background Check (PNBC) process, as required by Kentucky state law.
