International Initial Hires and Background Checks

Beginning December 1, 2006, an international applicant will be required to have a background check if they have most recently entered the country over one year ago. This will be verified during HR's completion of the I-9 form, by checking the most recent visa stamp in their passport.

It is the department's responsibility to determine if their applicant requires a background check; however, the Human Resources office will double-check the applicant's visa status during the I-9 process and determine if a background check is necessary.  Applicants requiring a background check will be handled in the way outlined here.
