82.1.15.1
The immediate family is defined for this eligibility as spouse, unmarried child at home, or other relative living in the household and under the care of the employee for purposes of care during prolonged incapacitation.
The family is defined for this eligibility as spouse, child, grandchild, mother, father, grandparent, brother, sister, (includes steps, halves, and in-laws of the same relationship), or legal dependent of the employee, irrespective of residence. Accrued TDL may also be used to care for any other person who resides in the employee’s household for whom the employee has an obligation to provide care.
82.1.15.2
The maximum time which may be used at any time for this accrued temporary disability leave is five (5) consecutive working days for a single illness or injury, or five (5) working days used singly over a period of six (6) months.
The maximum time which may be used for this accrued temporary disability leave is thirty (30) working days over a period of one (1) year. Upon extenuating circumstances, this maximum time may be extended with approval of the department supervisor, dean or director, and the president, provost, or executive vice president.

Upon accumulating and maintaining a balance of sixty-six (66) temporary disability leave days, an employee may be granted necessary time off due to the illness or injury of an immediate family member in accordance with the following guidelines:

As long as a balance of sixty-six (66) total disability leave days is maintained, an employee may be granted accrued temporary disability leave days not to exceed thirty (30) days within a given twelve (12) month period for this purpose.

In cases in which both spouses are employees of the University of Kentucky, only one spouse at a time is eligible to use this policy for the care of the same immediate family member.
82.1.15.3
In cases in which two family members are employed within the same department of the University of Kentucky, use of TDL on the same days for the purposes of caring for the same relative must be approved by the dean or director. In cases where two family members are employed in different departments, no prior approval is necessary to care for the same family member.
