Make the Difference, UK’s employee suggestion program, recently celebrated its most successful year to date with a special recognition ceremony on November 19. The program facilitated review by university administrators of more than 600 suggestions over the past year, which led to a record number of ideas formally implemented. The third annual Make the Difference awards event honored the 29 employees whose proposals to improve efficiency, safety or service were adopted by the University.
Associate Vice President for Human Resources Kim Wilson and Provost Kumble Subbaswamy highlighted the strategic importance of employee engagement and ideas.
“The program’s growing success highlights the importance our university places on employee feedback and engagement at all levels of the organization,” said Wilson. “It also shows the value of having a forum for the diverse insights our employees have to our institution work more effectively.”

In recognizing this year’s award recipients, Provost Subbaswamy urged all university leaders and employees to encourage innovation as a means of accelerating progress toward UK’s strategic goals. Together with Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration Frank Butler, Subbaswamy recognized each of the 29 award winners.
Christy Fitch of Neurology received a “Suggester of the Year” award for submitting seven recommendations through Make the Difference. Don Thornton and Stuart Kearns from Parking & Transportation earned the evaluator(s) of the year award, evaluating a total of 37 suggestions. Diagnostic Radiology, for the second year in a row, earned the department of the year for contributing a total of 11 improvement ideas. Impressively, four of this year’s 29 award winners work in Diagnostic Radiology.
“President Todd's continued support of this program, as well the growing involvement of our employees, speaks volumes about the UK community’s commitment to sharing and acknowledging great ideas from staff and faculty,” said Wilson.
