All University of Kentucky employees are required to
attend University New Employee Orientation. If possible,
it is highly recommended that you attend orientation
on your first day on the job. During this session, you
will receive information pertaining to your benefits,
University policies, and an overview of campus. Your
supervisor will register you for a University New Employee
Orientation session. (see FAQ below)
Be sure to bring the following items for your first day at UK:
- Original, unlaminated Social Security Card (or passport) and one other form of picture identification (i.e. driver's license, military ID card, etc.) - you will need this information to complete the I-9 form.
- Voided check or deposit slip - this information is necessary to complete the Direct Deposit form
- Writing instrument - be prepared to take notes
- If you plan to purchase a parking permit during orientation, please do the following:
- Verify with your supervisor that your information has been entered into the system prior to coming to orientation. The Parking and Transportation office can only issue a regular parking permit after verifying this information in the computer system.
- Bring your vehicle make, model and license plate number
- Bring your departmental address
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: The Federal form, often referred to as the “I-9
Form” is required before the person starts work. Therefore,
if they complete the I-9 at this orientation, they can not be an employee
because they can not work before obtaining the I-9. Secondly, their
employment start date is based upon the date of the I-9.
A: You are correct, in that the University requires
the I-9 to be complete “on or before the first day of employment”.
(10.4.2) I believe the plan is to have someone at orientation
just in case someone is attending orientation on their
first day and has not completed this paperwork. We require
all new employees to have the I-9 completed prior to coming to orientation. Q: What about a new employee photo id? There
currently is a charge of $15.00 for new employees, will this always
be the case? The cost is non-reimbursable.
A: Thanks to the great work of the Student Center
ID Office, they have agreed to offer the photo ID cards to new employees
at a discounted rate of $10 (the regular price is $15) for a limited
time. Here is how it will work - The employees will receive a coupon
in orientation that must be redeemed within 30 days of their orientation
date to benefit from the discounted rate. As you know, the “photo” ID
is optional, as NEO staff will continue to issue new employees the
paper staff/faculty ID that is currently used.
Q: What is a plus account and why would a full time
employee want one?
A: The photo IDs (mentioned above) can serve a dual
purpose. First, they obviously serve as personal identification, and
secondly, they are made of hard plastic with a magnetically coded strip
similar to a debit or credit care and therefore serve as a way to “place
money on the card”. This service, known as the “Plus Account”,
allows employees to put money on the card and use it as a pre-paid
card at any Campus Cuisine location. (Students use this same card/service.) |
