University of Kentucky Employee Assistance Program
UK REFER

photos of peopleOur lives are always changing!

One day is never exactly like any other. Thoughts and feelings change with our circumstances and with our needs and concerns.

In the course of these changes, there are times when each of us may want or need some assistance to put things in perspective. This is when REFER, your Employee Assistance Program, can help.

At the University of Kentucky, our most valuable resource is the people who make the University what it is from day to day. Just as you are committed to the University, the University is concerned for your well-being as a person and as an employee. That is why REFER is one of your employee benefits.

How can I contact REFER?

picture of man talking on phoneCall Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at 257-1467. If we are not in or you call after hours, just leave a message, and we will return your call within 24 hours or the next business day.

We are in room 316 of the Funkhouser Building located in the Central Campus of the University.

How does REFER work?

You may refer yourself when problems become too much to handle on your own. Also, your supervisor, manager, dean, or department head may discuss with you and suggest a referral to REFER when a difficulty is affecting or has the potential to affect your job performance.

What are the costs?

picture of woman on computerThe initial problem assessment and consultation session provided by REFER is free to all employees. If you and your REFER therapist decide to continue working together in addressing your problems, then you may continue to work with him or her through the Family Center. Information about fees is available from the person who takes your call to REFER. The Family Center has a sliding scale fee that is based on your family income.

If a community referral seems more appropriate for you, your REFER therapist will work with you to find someone whose services your insurance may cover. If you require services not covered by insurance, your REFER therapist will try to help minimize the cost by referring you to an appropriate agency.

REFER Overview

Professional: We will assess your individual needs and refer you to the appropriate University or community resource.

Free: There is no charge for the initial assessment and consultation. If you need additional help, fees are based on what you can afford. Insurance or other benefits may pay. If you choose to work with a REFER therapist, your fees are based on a sliding scale according to your family income.

Informal: A simple phone call starts the process. Come as you are. No red tape. 257-1467
