Group Fitness Classes

Attention: You must be a Body Shop member to enroll in a group fitness class. Here's how to enroll in Body Shop . Once you join and receive your key tag, you may register for a group fitness class online.

All Body Shop Group Fitness Classes are included with membership. Classes are ongoing and you can join in at any time throughout the term by registering for the class. If you can no longer attend a class, please call the main office at 257-9355 and let us know.

Rosters are maintained for all classes. Therefore, you must enroll before attending. We honor the "first come, first served" standard for meeting class sizes. If the class is full when you enroll, we will notify you and place you on a waiting list.

AM Sampler: Oct.26-Nov.6 Kickboxing; Nov.9-Dec. 4 Bootcamp; Dec. 7-Dec.18 Abs and Stretch.

Tai Chi will meet in the courtyard between the hospital and the College of Dentistry.
The alternate/rain location is 214 College of Nursing (Tues.) and CTW 411 (Thurs.).

How do I enroll in Body Shop Fitness?

1. New members: Call 257-3772 to schedule a Health & Fitness Consultation (HFC). You cannot enroll without one. The HFC consists of a health history assessment and measurement of height, weight, blood pressure, and heart rate. Physician clearance may be required for individuals with health risks.

Returning members: You may need a new Health Fitness Consultation (HFC), if you have not had one within the past year. You can find out the date of your last HFC by calling (859) 257-9355.

2. Employees and spouses/sponsored dependents please complete and return the Payroll Deduction Form to: UK Health & Wellness, 116A Seaton Center, Lexington, KY 40506-0219.

Retirees may pay with check or cash and complete and return the Retiree Enrollment Form to: UK Health & Wellness, 116A Seaton Center, Lexington, KY 40506-0219.

3. Your photo will be taken and you will be issued a key tag, or your key tag will be updated. Access will not be granted to the fitness facilities or Group Fitness Classes without your key tag.

Only University of Kentucky employees, retirees, spouses, and sponsored dependents are eligible for UK Health & Wellness services and programs.


 

Group Fitness Class Descriptions

(AFLW = All Fitness Levels Welcome)

Aqua Jog -  Jog your way through deep currents with a flotation belt. This lunch time class is easy on your joints.  AFLW

Basic Yoga - Learn the basic principles of alignment, breath, and relaxation. AFLW

Body Bootcamp - Boost your body into shape military style!  Expect to be challenged with push-ups, sit-ups, interval training, and cardio work-out.  AFLW

Cardio Intense - This class will be focused on drills and exercises to increase cardiovascular endurance, overall muscle strength and endurance, as well as the addition of sport specific interval training, balance, agility and flexibility to make for the total body workout!

Cardio Step - Intermediate-advanced choreography utilizing the Reebok step.  Challenge yourself with this class and you will have the opportunity to get an intense workout. Click Here for a short video of Cardio Step

Combo Class - A  total body workout!  This class consists of a 30-minute cardio portion which could be step, kickboxing, or high/low followed by a 30-minute toning portion.  AFLW

Deep Water Works - Work all the major muscle groups and keep the heart pumping. Participants should be able to swim; this class takes place in deep water. AFLW

Early Morning Sampler - Take a few of our popular fitness classes for a test drive. Two weeks of Bootcamp; two weeks of yoga; two weeks of Zumba; and two weeks of kickboxing.

Fit Yoga - Never tried yoga, but always wanted to try? Attend Fit Yoga to learn the basics of stretching, strengthening, and relaxation while getting a full body work-out.  AFLW

Health & Happiness - A  fun, low impact, strength training class.  Designed for those 40 and older, however, all are welcome.  Get a dose of your weekly exercise with us and you will feel healthier and more energized in no time. AFLW

Meditation - This self-led class allows you to explore enriching techniques for relaxation.  AFLW

Meditative Yoga - This class will focus on quieting the mind through the breath, poses, and focusing inward.  Come experience meditative yoga and leave relaxed, calm, and peaceful.  AFLW

Saturday Yoga -   A 90-minute class to take you through a complete warm up, work, and cool-down with all aspects of yoga involved: breathing, meditation, poses, and more.  Come see if this class is for you! AFLW

Tai Chi - This is meditation in motion!  Learn how to connect to your breath, strengthen the core, and understand the ancient practice of Tai Chi Chaun. AFLW 

Toning & Sculpting - Increase muscle tone with this resistance training class.  AFLW

Yoga (A & B) - Relax while improving flexibility, muscular strength, balance and coordination. Both Yoga A and Yoga B hold a sequence of 31 postures for an extended period of time.

Yogilates - A dynamic combo of  Yoga & Pilates involving stretching and toning of the muscles. AFLW

Zumba - Dance your way into fitness! Learn to cumbia, reggae, salsa, merengue, and more to Latin and international beats. This class will help you work-out with out even knowing it! AFLW
