Preventing Diabetes

Preventing Diabetes is a low-pressure program designed to help you manage your risk for diabetes and decrease you chances of developing advanced disease. To start, we will mail you some information on the many health benefits of preventing diabetes.

What are the goals of the program?

  1. Reduce body weight by 7%
  2. Burn 700 additional calories/week, approximately 150 minutes
  3. Prevent development of diabetes

Why should I start "Preventing Diabetes?"

The Preventing Diabetes Program is different from any other program you have tried. Why?

  • The program is based on solid research from the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) from the American Diabetes Association and the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases
  • This program is designed to work with you until you feel confident that you can sustain your healthier lifestyle
  • It is convenient to your home or work place and is self-paced
  • We work with your physicians and the medical community to provide a safe and effective Preventing Diabetes Intervention

What is BeH.I.P.?

The Behavioral Health Improvement Plan (BeH.I.P.) is a low-pressure health improvement program designed to encourage you to adopt healthy behaviors. BeH.I.P. is one of the many health benefits offered by UK and is designed to improve the health of the UK community while fostering a better physician-patient relationship.

How does it work?

BeH.I.P. is an entirely telephonic stage-based program which allows you to proceed through each stage at your own pace. BeH.I.P. uses an approach to health improvement that will assist you in achieving long lasting behavior changes. A Personal Health Counselor will work with you over the phone as frequently as once a week or as infrequently as once a month. Your Personal Health Counselor will track and measure your progress towards reaching your health goals.
