HEAT OR AIR CONDITIONING
In most of our apartment communities, we can have either heat or air conditioning, but both cannot work at the same time. Autumn and Spring are usually difficult times as the weather is so unpredictable! Normally, we would have the heat working around October 1. However, the weather this year has been unusually warm! Our maintenance staff is monitoring projected weather forecasts to determine the best time to convert over to heat. We want to keep our residents as comfortable as possible! We appreciate your patience during this time!
WINDOWS
Please keep all windows closed when you are using the air conditioner or the heat in your apartment. You may be charged if we respond to a request for service involving "no heat" or "no air-conditioning" and your windows are open.
SMOKE DETECTORS AND ALARMS
In most of our apartment communities, the smoke detector is a centralized alarm system that is connected to all apartments in the building. Residents should NEVER remove the smoke detector for any reason. All problems or concerns with the smoke detector must be reported to FIXIT immediately. There is presently a $36.00 fine for removing a smoke detector. Additional charges may apply. The fine is expected to go up to $75.00 in the very near future.
Greg Page residents must remember to perform a self-test on their smoke detectors every month. This is a condition of your Lease Agreement. But, more importantly, this simple self-test could save lives!
FIRE PREVENTION
Unattended cooking is a major cause of fires in the United States. NEVER leave your apartment—even for a short time—if you are cooking food or beverages. Residents are financially responsible for all damage caused by smoke or fire when they are negligent in this (and other) manners. More importantly, we all need to be good neighbors and practice good fire safety techniques. Smoke and fire can and do takes lives everyday! Let’s all work together to keep our communities safe!
APARTMENT OCCUPANTS
Reminder: everyone that is 18-years of age or older living in an apartment must sign a Lease Agreement. This includes roommates and family members. Anyone living in an apartment that has not signed a Lease Agreement is living there "illegally" or "unauthorized". This can lead to disciplinary action up to and including eviction from your apartment. We are looking into programs and procedures that will enable us to determine apartment occupancy more efficiently so that everyone living in our communities has signed the proper documents. This is a very important issue that affects everyone living in our communities.
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
Graduate and Family Housing, the University of Kentucky Police Department, and your Resident Council are working to establish a "Neighborhood Watch" program in all of our apartment communities. Training is planned for October 25. I will provide more information after that date. We need as many resident volunteers as possible to make this program a success! We hope to cut down on vandalism and other crimes in our communities!
HAVE A WONDERFUL OCTOBER!!! Paula Dunn, Housing Manager, pjd@email.uky.edu
