Rebooting Your Cable Modem: Cisco Modems
The following steps describe the proper procedures for rebooting your Cisco cable modem. Please do not press the Reset button on the back of your modem. Using this button could physically damage your modem.
Step One:
Shut down and turn off any computers connected to the cable modem.
Step Two:
Go to the back of the cable modem and unplug the Cat 5 cables from the back. See Figure 1.
Step Three:
Unplug the power cord from the back of the cable modem. After about 30 seconds, plug the power cord back into its proper socket. See Figure 2.
Step Four:
After you have plugged the power cord back in let your modem reboot, this could take from 2-3 minutes up to 15-20 minutes. You will know your modem is finished rebooting when the following lights stop flashing and go solid: US, DS, DSNR, OK and LINK. See Figure 3.
Step Five:
Plug back in the Cat 5 cables and restart all computers connected to the modem. Check for an Internet connection.

Rebooting Your Cable Modem: SMC Modems
Step One:
Shut down and turn off any computers connected to the cable modem.
Step Two:
Go to the back of the cable modem and unplug the Cat 5 cables from the back.
Step Three:
Unplug the power cord from the back of the cable modem. After about 30 seconds, plug the power cord back into its proper socket.
Step Four:
After you have plugged the power cord back in let your modem reboot, this could take from 2 minutes up to about 5 minutes. You will know your modem is finished rebooting when the following lights stop flashing and go solid: Power, Cable and Traffic.
Step Five:
Plug back in the Cat 5 cables and restart all computers connected to the modem. Check for an Internet connection.
