Your Hall Staff
Each residence hall has a live-in staff of Resident Advisors (RAs) and Hall Directors who are there to help you be successful. Our staff is carefully selected and trained to help you adjust to being on campus and what it means to be a student at UK. They plan activities, coordinate the opening and closing of the buildings, recognize academic achievement, help encourage students to become leaders, enforce policies and other measures to make sure our halls are safe and much, much more.
Residents have rated our staff - through a recent Educational Benchmarking Study - in the superior to excellent range for helping solve problems, enforcing policy, treating everyone fairly, creating inclusive communities, being available and planning activities. This survey compares UK staff with residence hall staff from across the country.
Resident Advisors are students who live and work on a floor or wing in the residence halls. RAs share your concern about classes, grades, and campus life. They help everyone get acquainted, answer questions, post information, assist students with problems, and help uphold policies. RAs are trained to provide information to students or refer them to those on campus who can further assist them. Take some time to get to know your RA. They can be a great resource for you. If, after living in the halls for at least a semester, you are interested in applying to be an RA, apply online at jobs.uky.edu.
Front Desk Staff
Office Assistants answer the front desk phone, sign guests in and out, sort mail, and answer questions for residents and guests Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. They also love getting to know residents, so stop by and say hello!
Each hall has a Hall Director who is responsible for the overall management of the building. He/she supervises the RAs and Office Assistants, advises the Residence Hall Government, and serves as a resource person for residents. If you ever want to get more involved in the hall, have a problem you need help with, want a room change, or have any questions, your Hall Director is a great person to seek out.
University Housing employs its own staff to clean and maintain the residence halls. University custodial staff work during the day, with a reduced work force on the weekends.
Our maintenance staff handles most repairs and works in cooperation with the University's Physical Plant Division and outside contractors for large scale projects.
If you need an item fixed in your room, submit an electronic job order at www.uky.edu/AuxServ/fixit or call the 24/7 Call Center in Donovan Hall at 859-32FIXIT or 859-323-4948 and use option 1. Students and staff may also fill out a work order at the front desk of each residence hall. All non-emergency maintenance requests will be handled Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. Maintenance personnel will be dispatched as quickly as possible in response to emergency situations.
Some of the older residence hall facilities may contain asbestos. Should your room walls, the pipes within your room, or the floors become damaged in any way, please report this to our maintenance department by calling 32F-IXIT immediately. Someone will be dispatched and an assessment of the area will be made.
