IRIS Project Date: Tips for Getting Ready
IRIS Financials and Procurement modules, along with Student Accounting, will go live on October 1, 2005, followed by HR/Payroll and Hospital Inventory Management in 2006. This first Go Live date no longer seems like a distant target. University of Kentucky employees may be considering what to do to get ready for the changes new systems will bring to their work lives. Here are some suggestions for everyone who will be using the Integrated Resource Information Systems (IRIS):
Learn to navigate in SAP. Employees can become familiar with the new software by taking an on-line course called SAP R/3 V4.6 User Basics. This self-paced course is available through UK’s Executrain Virtual Campus (EVC). Employees who take the course will get an overview of the SAP software and learn how to move through its system of folders, subfolders, and screens. They will learn about pull-down menus and icons for various features. The course provides exposure to modules, applications, and tasks. Learners also get a taste of data entry, SAP’s on-line help, and printing and reporting functions.
EVC users must have a U-Connect User ID and password to use the training system.
Learn about hardware and software system requirements. All IRIS users will need to make sure their computers meet the minimum requirements for running the R/3 SAP GUI (graphical user interface). Details on these requirements are available at Desktop Requirements .
Complete any needed desktop training. Some employees may have identified some gaps in their desktop skills and, with the help of their supervisors, found courses taught by Human Resource Development to close those gaps. Completing the training offered by Human Resource Development (such as basic keyboarding, web navigation, or working in Windows) is important for IRIS readiness.
Stay tuned for IRIS training information. The IRIS Team currently is developing the training program to get UK ready for its first Go Live on October 1. Team members are working on logistics, scheduling, and development of materials for end-users. Delivery of training will take place in August and September. The UK community can expect to get further information on IRIS training in June and July.
Come to an IRIS Town Hall meeting. IRISTown Hall events are scheduled for today at 3:00 p.m. in the Worsham Theater, Student Center, and on Tuesday, May 24, at 1:00 p.m. in 201 College of Nursing Building. Those who come will get an update, see demonstrations, and learn more about the system going live in the fall.
