How can I learn about what other departments in my discipline have done to assess student-learning objectives?
Many faculty members report that email or telephone conversations with colleagues at other institutions will help them locate these materials. Sometimes the information is available within the department, but not in a centralized location for the institution.
Another strategy includes going to the web pagesof professional organizations in your discipline. Increasingly, these web pagesprovide guidelines and standards, as well as illustrations from institutions that have launched successful efforts. Often this information is found under headings (screens) related to the teaching of the discipline. A good illustration of this practice can be found in the web page at University of Colorado. To see an individual department, scroll through an alphabetized list .
