Periodic Review |
| |
|
The Periodic Review is the primary vehicle for review of educational and administrative units and for documentation of institutional effectiveness. University of Kentucky’s Governing Regulation IX requires that each educational and administrative unit in the University shall be reviewed comprehensively at regular intervals by an ad hoc committee. The review period shall normally be from five (5) to seven (7) years. This review period enables educational and administrative units to better align their goals and plans with those of the college and University. This process is designed to improve the quality and effectiveness of teaching and learning, research, public service, and operations. It does so by systematically examining missions, goals, objectives, resources, activities, processes, and outcomes of programs and services (Administrative Regulations 1:4).

Periodic Review ComponentsUK’s Periodic Review process entails the following 4 components: |
| |
Unit Self-Study Report: The self-study report is a comprehensive internal review of the total unit area. It contains the unit vision, mission, goals, and recommendations based on an analysis of the unit information. |
| |
External Review: The external review provides an external perspective regarding the quality and effectiveness of the unit’s programs, services, resources, processes, and operations. Its purpose is to assure an objective, unbiased assessment of the unit. |
| |
Implementation Plan: The Implementation Plan sets the agenda for change and quality enhancement over the next 5-7 year cycle. It is the synthesis and integration of the results and recommendations from the Unit Self-Study report and External Review |
| |
Annual Progress Reports: The Annual Progress Report strengthens the link between periodic review and subsequent planning, budgeting, and assessment activities. |
