Scalability and cross-platform capabilities are important to a large organization. It is also important to use enterprise-wide supported protocols to allow integration, reliability and help maintain simplicity in a large complex network as the enterprise continues to evolve.

Currently, NEMOC routes and supports the following three protocols:

    • TCP/IP
    • IPX
    • AppleTalk

As the global networking community moves toward TCP/IP as a single protocol for all data needs, so will the University of Kentucky.

IPX and AppleTalk are supported as legacy protocols; however, strategic planning is based on supporting TCP/IP as the single protocol .
