can I change my e-mail address in the phone book and the on-line
directories?

have e-mail through UK, but I'm not a UK Student or Employee.

No. Currently the University of Kentucky Directory only prints
information on UK students, staff, supplementary staff, and faculty.
I'm a UK student and my information is wrong in the UK
Telephone Directory.
All student information comes from Student Information Services
(SIS). If you have questions about your listing, please contact
the Registrars Office

I'm a UK student concerned about privacy, what can I do?
Home telephone and address information is supplied
for students from SIS unless an individual's entry is marked as
private. Information concerning privacy is available at http://www.uky.edu/Registrar/ferpa.htm.
I'm a UK student, how can I obtain a UK Telephone Directory?
Off-campus students can pick up a copy of the
UK Directory in the Student Government Office in Room 120 in the
Student Center Building. Students residing in dorms will have
their directories delivered to them by the Student Government
Association.
How can I search the campus directory from the Internet?
From the UK Home Page, click on Search UK to go to
the campus directory.
How can I search the campus directory from Eudora?
From Eudora select Directory Services from the
Tools menu. Be sure Eudora is configured to use ukcc.uky.edu
as its Ph server and use the Locate or Ph button
to search the directory (not the Finger button!).

I'm a UK Staff Member and my name
is not in the printed UK Telephone Directory. How can I have my
information included in the telephone book?
I'm a faculty or staff member;
how can I change my campus address and listing in the University
Directory?
How can I change my e-mail address
in the phone book and the on-line directories?
How long
will it take for my changes to occur?
It can take several weeks for all changes to filter through
all of the scheduled updates to the on-line directories. Changes
made to your preferred e-mail sent to WhoIs usually occur within
minutes.
I have

Physical Plant Trucking distributes the UK Directory in the
fall each year. To obtain a copy, please contact your departmental
office.

soon will my request be completed?
Completion times vary depending on the service requested. Time
frames start upon receipt of request with all accurate information.

What if I
want my request quicker than the schedules listed?
Your request can be scheduled earlier than the times indicated
above, however your request will carry an additional Expedite
Fee of for the first hour per technician.

will my request cost?

If I don't
want to use the Web for ordering services how can I get a requisition?
Your Business Officer should have requisitions. UK Stores also
has requisitions. Click here for a PDF

version of the University requisition form.
What information
is required on a requisition?
A valid 6 digit Account number, department code, a clear statement
of work, contact name and number (the person most familiar with
the scope of work), Authorized signature on the second line.

Can I buy
my own equipment?
All equipment that attaches to UK's Voice and Data Network must
be purchased through the CNS Work Order Desk. Call 323-5666 for

Getting Connected to the Network - Ethernet, Internet, Wireless,
DSL
Communications
and Network Systems provides connectivity for your computer to
the campus network, email and the Internet as well as connectivity
for departments located off of UK's campus. Below are answers
to some commonly asked questions:

How do I get my computer connected to the network at UK?
A. Contact Communications and
Network Systems. We handle all connectivity for your phone,
computer and video conferencing needs.
Q. Is there a cost for this service?
A. Yes. Communication and Network Services is not a university
wide funded service.
Q. I need more network connections in my office,
can I use my hub, switch or wireless router from home or purchase
one to use in my office?
A. No, this equipment does not meet the management, security
or quality of service that is required for the university network
and may cause problems for other users. To learn more please see
our Policies and Standards
section.
Q. How much does it cost to have my computer(s)
connected to the network?
A. Please contact Communications
and Network Systems and we can provide you with a free estimate.
Q. What if my department is not on UK campus?
A. Contact us and we will
help you find the best solution for your departments needs.

Q. I have a laptop with wireless networking, can
I use it at UK?
A. Yes, the University of Kentucky has Wi-Fi, IEEE 802.11b/g,
wireless access in various locations and is intended to be used
by students, visitors, faculty and staff while they are away from
their dorm room or office.
Q. Is there a cost to use the UK wireless network?
A. No. This service is provided free of charge.
Q. How can I find out where wireless access is
available?

Q. How secure is my connection to the wireless
network?
A. In order to make getting to the wireless network easier,
we have not required any extra software to be loaded on your laptop
or hand held device. So, if you have a wired connection, you should
use this to be more secure as well as faster and more reliable.

A. You can connect to UK's network via dial-up or the Internet.
You may use any service from home offered by any ISP, Internet
Service Provider.
